The same Republicans who spent all year fretting about voter fraud, and who are shrouding their vote tabulation activities in secrecy, do not require a photo ID to vote in the caucuses they run.

I guess it really is about "If you can't beat em, disenfranchise 'em"...

Do you even know the difference between elections and caucuses?

So, you're saying that the choice of someone in a caucus is worth less than their vote in an election, and is therefore deserving of less care and attention to its integrity? Is that your point?

Yes. The right to vote is reserved for citizens.

Theyre probably forced to do this on account of the Own Wall Street punks

And you know they can get away with anything because Holder is either too inept or corrupt to do his job, take your pick

The two have nothing in common. Caucusing is not voting.

The Iowa caucuses operate very differently from the more common primary election used by most other states (see U.S. presidential primary). The caucuses are generally defined as "gatherings of neighbors." Rather than going to polls and casting ballots, Iowans gather at a set location in each of Iowa's 1,784 precincts.
....

The Republicans and Democrats each hold their own set of caucuses subject to their own particular rules that change from time to time. Participants in each party's caucuses must be registered with that party. Participants can change their registration at the caucus location. Additionally, 17-year-olds can participate, as long as they will be 18 years old by the date of the general election. Observers are allowed to attend, as long as they do not become actively involved in the debate and voting process. For example, members of the media and campaign staff and volunteers attend many of the precinct caucuses. Youth who will not be eligible to vote by the date of the general election may also attend as observers and may volunteer to attend the county convention as youth delegates.

Isnt it the Republicans who are pushing for voter IDs, demanding people actually have one? How is the above any different?

Im really hoping someone can come along and tell me what I am missing in that post, Lucy. Because, if they cant, then fargle has a damn good point.

Some states (like Mass) have had their Supreme Courts rule that requiring ID to vote is a violation of people's rights. A political party holding a primary or caucus can not do something that is illegal to do during regular voting.

It's about preventing as many other party votes as possible. Not new.

Of course, the damn law keeps getting in the way...sometimes.

As your quote states, the Iowa Caucasus are different than others. They take the place of voting. Voting is for citizens.

I would guess that the Iowa Caucasus use a "friend recognition" kind of thing for their voting. You have to either be known or vouched for. Just a guess, I do not live there.

I realize they arent the same, but, if one takes the place of the other, shouldnt the same rules apply?

This is simple:  The Republican Caucus goers don't need photo IDs to participate in the caucus because they are Republicans!!

Seems quite simple. Any idiot can vote for us, but you have to be qualified to vote against us.

HEY, don't pick on me, they said it !

It would be helpful if I knew which article the OP was reading so that I could see just what he was getting upset about.

As an example. . . when the other half votes in the primaries, the vote workers know who he is / recognize him at least, because our voting areas are small. It could be something like that. Or perhaps they require a voter registration card. They must be using checking something to check how they are registered.
