ORIGINAL: FrostedFlake I applaud your progress Popeye. But. I am sure you are aware that using nicotine to stop smoking leaves the nicotine dependence to be dealt with on another day. If what you are doing is seperating the nicotein habit from the cigarette habit, then that's great. Drug dependence is a different and easier thing to deal with than a physical habit of sucking on a burning twig and being rewarded with a spike of nicotine every time you do. I stopped smoking about five years back. I was a 25 year, two pack a day fool. About 18,000 packs! How many $$,$$$? Isn't that what a cheap used car costs, for 25 years? I tried to quit several times, always went back, if I managed to quit at all. What worked for me was retiring instead of quitting. As in, "I'm sure glad I don't have to do that anymore!" instead of " I sure wish I had a smoke!" Big difference from a little word. The other trick I used was, every time I reached for a (non-existent) cigarette, I would stop and ask myself, out loud, in the most serious voice I could muster, "Why do I want a cigarette? I don't smoke!". This was a blatant lie and I was well aware of that. But. It didn't take too many repetitions to have a very powerful effect. As if my subconscious was taking notes. (Doesn't smoke. Write that down. Got it.) Between lying to myself and retirement, it was what should really be called easy. The measure of easy is, my house mate did not quit, and that was not a problem. If my experience helps anyone, then good! Otherwise, sorry to be a pain! And Congratulations, Popeye! Frosted, yes, I'm using the nicotine in chew to take the edge off. I'll probably use less than one half of a tin of "Grizzly". As I said right now the mission is to get off the ciggarettes so anything that helps me do that is a good thing. As the urges go away I'll use less and less chew (I only use it 2 or 3 times a day now) Sometimes just chewing on a cigar butt helps too and I smoke about 1 cigar a day but don't inhale them of course. And thanks for all the encouragement! Also, I have a can with $250 in it so that I can "see" the progress I'm making.
