The first one was in Aug of 2009.  I suspect this one was just a bad battery.  As long as this one lasts, I am good with it.

I am just thankful it happened on a morning I didn't have to be at work to cook breakfast for a couple hundred kids!

Did they check the alternator?

I just can not believe the damn battery didn't even last 3 years...

I got a cheap Pep Boys battery that lasted less than a year. I didn't want to spend half a day at Pep Boys so replaced it with a AAA battery with an awesome guarantee.

They did check the alternator.  I have always had family in the mechanic biz, so I hate going to non family.

I just hope that the one I got replaced was a bad one.  I have never had problems with Motorcraft or Interstate, which are the only 2 I have ever used.

Time will tell, it always does.

Glad it was just the battery then and that you got it at a discounted price.

I think when I took a car with a Sears battery in it, they pro rated it. But Sears is 20 miles from here so a couple of times I've just driven the three miles to the Advance Auto store with a dead battery from another car. If it's under the three years, Advance replaces it for free. No pro rate which I was expecting.

However for tires, Sears rocks. We took the car up there a couple of weeks ago to get a flat fixed. When they ran the car through the computer they discovered they had put the wrong tires on a year ago. No pro rate for the 15,000 miles I had already put on it. Brand new Michelins of the right size for free up to the cost of the old tires and a ten percent discount above that. I think the cost for the tires to me was under $40 and over $550 to them.

I was going to the store and got the old "clickity click click" when I went to start the truck.

The battery is fairly new, and the truck started fine for my dentist appt at 11 this morning.  It is a 2000 Ranger, 4WD.

The battery connections looked clean, from what I could see in the dark.  When it gets daylight, I am going to go double check the connections at the battery, trace the cables from the battery to the other end and make sure those are also tight, and beat on the starter gently.

That is all I know to do, since my knowledge of these newfangled cars is lacking.  I long for the days of my 72 Nova!

Anyone know anything else I can try, if none of my stuff works?

Thanks!

Usually they won't replace the battery without checking to see that it charges. I wouldn't.

If I start a business you wanna be purchasing director/expeditor ?

Actually Sears is a bit easier to deal with. They get the price but don't give it so they CAN excel in warranty replacement. Actually that is a successful business strategy, after the sale people are satisfied, if you really know how to play that, you can do really good business. When I was in business, the warrantee was a killer selling point. I sold used items with the same warrantee that was given by the manufacturer.

I never had to advertise, not one flyer, not one mailer, not one door to door, not one anything. Word of mouth and a small sign in front, that is all I needed. That is because things do break, whether in or out of warrantee, what you do at that point detemines whether you have a customer for life, or have to advertise. I NEVER advertised, period.

Never had to. The business dissolved because of internal strife (partner(s)). From what I heard people were beating on the doors after we were gone. I don't think we had much in the way of obligations, like warrantee claims or anything, well I hope. Never did before.

ETA : in retail, it is what happens after you get their money that counts.
