From an argument you raised starting with "no singing, no music, no talking," you want to raise the cry of what you can justify?

This is built on an initial straw man. Wherever you decide to go with it, it's still fundamentally flawed.

But to rule out public safety as a legitimate point, from there you could dismantle all laws, police, military, courts...to avoid a "police state."

Isn't that what he wants to do?
(Unless Ron Paul wins the election next year, of course: then everything will be rosy and the more government control that's imposed the better...)

"Its the first STEP in a well documented strategy of the Federal government"

Ok, ,lol, besides the obvious lunatic fringe masturbations about the heavy hand of government laugh-track

How can anything be 1st if it`s already well documented?

That puzzles me as well. None of these are new measures.

http://www.ghsa.org/html/stateinfo/laws/cellphone_laws.html

Great chart.

Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) spokesman Jonathan Adkins says 31 of the 34 states with text messaging bans, as well as Washington, D.C., have made texting while driving a primary offense, allowing police to pull drivers over for that specific offense. California and New York are among them, as is Maine, where the law went into effect last month.
Nine states made texting while driving a primary offense in 2010, and four more have done so this year, including Nevada, which will issue warnings until the law is in full-effect Jan. 1, 2012, Adkins said.

Sounds like the government agency is recommending what many states already have in place.

You keep managing to surpass yourself. The first step in cooking pasta is to boil water. Pretty fucking well documented, eh?

Using the cry of "public safety" you could justify an entire police state, couldn't you

Indeed, why they have drink drive laws is beyond me.

Lucylastic -> RE: Distracted Driving or Distracted Policymaking? (12/27/2011 5:25:03 PM)

Doubting it is a police state, just look at any number of americans getting pepper sprayed by their own police when sitting down. Protesting peacefully
but NO cant do anything to stop morons from killing people with their texting super rights
what a horrendous thing to do

Well at the risk of seeming pedantic about it the first step in cooking pasta would seem to be putting the water in the pot.One must do this before one can "boil" said water [:D]

The analogy, in order to fit the reality, would be to the removal of salt after boiling the noodles.

Politesub53 -> RE: Distracted Driving or Distracted Policymaking? (12/27/2011 5:39:13 PM)

Nope, it would be to go the store and buy the noodles......Just saying Taz. [8D]

That has nothing to do with COOKING. Nice hijack though.

Owner59 -> RE: Distracted Driving or Distracted Policymaking? (12/27/2011 5:52:07 PM)

First you grow the wheat ,thresh and winnow the grain and then it them into flour.

Then some eggs......a little olive oil and the flour together makes the noddles.

If ya wanna get technical.....[8D]

Then you maka` da pasta...[:D]

Learn the definition of COOKING. Meanwhile why dont you address the stupidity of your contention that something cant be well documented and have a first step?

My point was.... the Feds backed off the speed limits, making their point of the steps towards the feds taking over in that area moot.

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: Distracted Driving or Distracted Policymaking? (12/27/2011 9:01:26 PM)

I, for one, am getting sick to death of this States Rights bull. This is a single nation, a single economic and social unit, and a theory that was practical necessity back in the 18th century when long distance communication was non-existent is no longer needed. And when you consider how complex modern life has become, then the need for comprehensive solutions is critical. States Rights is simply an excuse for reactionary states to nullify the efforts of the national government. This cell phone thing is an excellent example: there isn't one of us who hasn't seen some godawful stupid behavior on the road, and as one who was raised in St Loser, in the Great State of Misery, I can tell you that Jefferson City will gladly put our lives at risk just to flout them 'Eastern Com-oo-nists'. States Rights died in the Civil War - we need to bury it once and for all before it buries this nation.

And I, for one am fed up with the moronic Libertardian arguments that laws about texting and seatbelts are gubbertmint intrusions on fweedom... "We don' need no steenking laws!" because people will naturally act so as to maximize their own safety... anyone who has ever watched some bimboid slathering on facepaint at 80MPH on the 285 autobahn knows that THAT is a fucking crock. The public absolutely needs tp be protected against such idiots.

Or the morons who believed it was perfectly safe to have the "boy" standing up beside dad on the front seat as dad barreled 80 miles an hour down the road.

Again, another Recommendation to the states, which the states implemented..
