Sanity -> MTV Generation Chose and Lost (12/23/2011 6:06:35 AM)

Not a whole lot of enthusiasm about Obamas reelection campaign going on out there...

quote:

After nearly 20 years of “Choose or Lose,” MTV is changing the name of its election season campaign.

The youth cable channel’s coverage will be labeled “Power of 12,” a nod to both the election year and the notion that 18- to 29-year-olds have a lot of political power if they choose to wield it.

The name change is, in part, a statement about the cynical mood of the youth voting bloc. While young people turned out in unusually high numbers to support Barack Obama in 2008, MTV’s research into “Choose or Lose” found that many felt they had lost anyway. “They were so passionate,” said Stephen K. Friedman, the president of MTV. “And then they hit this wall of the economy.”

The “Power” campaign, to be announced on Monday, implies that choosing is not all that matters. “Voting is one step in the process — just one step,” Mr. Friedman said. “The question for this generation is, they’ve got this power, will they exert it?”

A recent poll by the Pew Research Center found that 18- to 29-year-olds were backing Mr. Obama more than any other demographic group, yet they were also paying less attention to the campaign than any other.

But thats rather a fuckin DUHHHHHHHHHHH aint it?  The ideology and bumptuosity of the candidates is well known, there isn't any need to meet and greet any of these clowns (obama included sanity)  the vote was cast a while ago, this is a phone it in.

And that's apparent by the absolute apathy shown towards the republican slate.

Right, thats the point - the enthusiasm for Obama is gone

Vanished

For some reason that no one, apparently, can quite put their finger on... [;)][:D]

It would be practically impossible to duplicate the enthusiasm of '08,that election represented something new and revolutionary in American politics...the idea that a Black man can run for President, and actually win.Of course the fact that the black man running was an exceedingly charismatic and engaging politician added to the buzz.
None of that is present this time around, the bad news for the Republicans is that it isn't necessary for re-election though.Given the putrid quality of the Republican field, the obstructionist policy of Republicans in general for the entirety of his Presidency.....and his performance in office(no need to list his accomplishments,I'm sure Sanity knows all to well how effective this President has been)his re-election is a given.
For far too long the right has operated along the lines of your thinking sanity....the old ABO bullshit, well now primary season is upon us and the realization that you actually need a specific candidate dawns on the right. They find themselves dissatified with their choices, indeed they are playing their own version of ABR.....how in the name of sanity do you expect to wrest the office from President Obama when you can't even find a candidate to excite your own base, while maintaing some semblence of hope of engaging the middle?

Sanity -> RE: MTV Generation Chose and Lost (12/23/2011 8:08:43 AM)

Youre admitting that it was all about novelty and race to the "me" generation?

Fascinating... [:D]

And who started the ab bs

Began under Bush, so dont complain about the bitter acrimony that the left began

Owner59 -> RE: MTV Generation Chose and Lost (12/23/2011 8:41:49 AM)

How do you see that as meaning the enthusiasm is gone for Obama?

Seems more to me like they simply dont want to listen to the circus that the GOP Primaries has become.

I can. He misled them. He promised them change and delivered change, but he didn't change the things they wanted changed.

farglebargle -> RE: MTV Generation Chose and Lost (12/23/2011 11:41:21 AM)

It's because everyone with a brain knew all about Obama way back in July of 2008.

If you're surprised by anything he's done, you simply haven't been paying attention.

Many hoped that the President's election would usher forward an era of largely liberal policies. They were disappointed when the President's policies turned out to be fairly moderate or even a bit right-of-center.

ROFL. Sure they have.

Owner59 -> RE: MTV Generation Chose and Lost (12/23/2011 7:29:34 PM)

The election hasn`t even started and the cons are thinking they`re ahead......Counting chickens that haven`t even been laid yet.Tisk tisk tisk........

The cons are as about as clueless to what makes liberals tick as they are to what makes OWS tick.

The president is going to smash Mitt Obamney next year. And he`ll do it with Mitts own words.

It`s going to be awesome. There will be plenty of energy and spirit.

You cons being forced to defend Mitt will be really fun to watch too.[:D]
