I know, right? Looks awesome though. I'm going to be asking "Is it December 14 yet?", for the next 350some days.

Thank you for the info, BK! I loved the book and the trilogy. Own all the movies made so far.

Just wish they would have started with the Hobbit... but certainly not disappointed enough not to see it!

A faithful fan,

Ms Click

The yearlong wait for this one will be much easier than the yearlong wait for the second half

kalikshama -> RE: The Hobbit! (12/22/2011 6:27:52 AM)

I'm wondering where they are going to split the book in two - After Mirkwood perhaps? - or if part two will be the period between the end of the hobbit and the beginning of the LOTR. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/

Oh, and Thorin is WAY too young and not dwarf like. Gimli nailed it. Just sayin.

I agree. Far too long the bastards. At least they are releasing it before the end of the world on December 21, 2012... that is a bonus.

Those books were some of my favourite of childhood. Still have them actually, they are falling apart.

I am bummed that I do not see Sean Astin on the list of cast. It's been so long since I've read the books, perhaps Sam was not around yet. He is my favourite character. His love and devotion just touched my heart.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: The Hobbit! (12/22/2011 7:38:52 AM)

The Hobbit is just...not that good a book, yanno? And I say this as a person who has read pretty much everything extant that Tolkien has written. How on earth could they make TWO movies from it?

Of course I am looking forward to it, Bilbo and Gandalf and Elrond yay! And SMAUG. All those youngsters from LotR aren't even born yet, so no Merry & Pippin & Sam & Frodo.

Really I should stay the hell away from my favorite books made into movies, I was blown away by Two Towers, but Return of the King was a serious disappointment in terms of what they left out of the story. If I hadn't read the books umptyseven times I would never have noticed.

And now I have to go check Hobbit out at the library...

SimplyMichael -> RE: The Hobbit! (1/7/2013 7:30:29 AM)

I just saw in the theatres all three extended versions of the LoTR, 12 hours of Middle Earth, so I am a fan.

The Hobbit sucked.

The dwarves are made into bumbling fools, Elrond has no magesty, and it seems like a disneyland theme movie made for TV.

I cant believe I am saying this but I will just watch the other two when they come out on DVD.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: The Hobbit! (1/7/2013 7:52:22 AM)

Did we see the same film?

Himself and I saw the movie version of "The Hobbit' the day after it came out, and I thought they made a delightful rendition of what is a children's story.

I loved the goofy dwarves, and felt the movie kept to the original story line fairly well. Since I re-read it the same day we say the film, I can say that with *some* certainty.

The LoTR's trilogy, however, not only didn't stick to the story, it changed the story's basic themes to the point they were non-existent. Still, we own copies of those films and enjoy watching them for the special effects if nothing else.

I far preferred "The Hobbit" and look forward to the next installment. The actor who played Bilbo was spot on.

SimplyMichael -> RE: The Hobbit! (1/7/2013 8:00:24 AM)

Well, you need to reread it because it didn't follow the story line but that isn't why it sucked.

I cant believe I am saying this but the cartoon done years ago was a far better movie.

Peter Jackson wanted to make his own fantasy movie and did the trilogy by luck, I think he put his own spin on the tale plus marketing got involved and its a mess.

Rule -> RE: The Hobbit! (1/7/2013 11:05:35 AM)

One of my relatives watched a downloaded version and after one or two hours she simply ended it and stopped watching. She said that it sucked. So I am not going to the movies to watch this, nor am I going to watch a downloaded version.

ARIES83 -> RE: The Hobbit! (1/7/2013 12:14:34 PM)

Yer shameless cash cow, the movie seemed so
compressed that I couldn't develop any interest
in what was happening, the appearances by
actors from lotr felt contrived and the movie,
rather than hinting and teasing at a sequel, it
just stopped half way...

Dam shame since I was waiting for a while for
this.
