Owner59 -> Really getting nasty and will only get nastier.... (12/12/2011 7:59:42 PM)

The stakes were evident Monday as the two candidates campaigned here and engaged in their most intense skirmishes to date. Mr. Romney demanded that Mr. Gingrich return the $1.8 million in consulting fees he had received from Freddie Mac; Mr. Gingrich, a former House speaker, cast aside a vow not to attack his opponents and responded that Mr. Romney should “give back all the money he earned from bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years at Bain.”

newty is gaining fast in NH.Stakes are high.Folks getting nervous.NH may not be in Mitt`s back pocket as planned.

So far the Mitt and the "front-runner", as newt calls himself, have stayed clear of each other for the most part.

Not any more.

Well sure. Given the skyrocketing national debt, chronically awful unemployment numbers, ineffectual leadership from the White House, and the attempted unprecedented intrusion of the federal government into the lives of the individual citizenry, a nasty campaign of fear and loathing is the best hope you have.

"I would bet you $10, not $10,000, that he won’t take the offer,’’ Gingrich added. The challenge echoed Saturday night’s debate, where Romney proposed a $10,000 bet with Governor Rick Perry of Texas.

Asked about the significance of Romney’s $10,000 wager proposal, which critics have used to paint him as wealthy, Gingrich said, “I was startled because I know Rick Perry pretty well. I couldn’t imagine he could cover that. He’s been a public servant his whole career.’’

Ouch![:D]

At this point it's just a matter of seeing who the republicans nominate, they'll be the next president.
What people don't understand is that this election will not be an election in which to vote "for" someone, it will be an election to vote "against" someone like in 1980.

Owner59 -> RE: Really getting nasty and will only get nastier.... (12/12/2011 10:45:40 PM)

They`ll be voting against a worse version of shrub and for President Obama.

We`ll leave you with this and we`ll talk again middle of next November.[;)]

If you can`t stay on topic, start a thread about how awesome you republicans are.

erieangel -> RE: Really getting nasty and will only get nastier.... (12/13/2011 1:13:05 AM)

Somebody being a public servant doesn't negate them being wealthy.  Just look at all the millionaires in Congress.  Most of them didn't go into Congress with that wealth.

Owner59 -> RE: Really getting nasty and will only get nastier.... (12/14/2011 10:54:39 PM)

You know things are get`n bad when millionaires are dissing the other`s wealth, fighting over who is more greedy. It`s like a preverted form of class warfare.....[:D]

"Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney doesn't want to be cast as the only rich person in the race for the Republican presidential nomination."

In the wake of his attempt to make a $10,000 bet with Rick Perry during Saturday's Republican presidential debate - a move that put a spotlight on Romney's $190 million-plus net worth and prompted critics to cast him as out of touch - the former Massachusetts governor told CBS News on Wednesday that his chief rival for the nomination is a "very wealthy man."

"Newt Gingrich has wealth from having worked in government," Romney told CBS News political correspondent Jan Crawford in an interview in New York. "He's a wealthy man, a very wealthy man. If you have a half a million dollar purchase from Tiffany's, you're not a middle class American."

Ouch![:D]

Gingrich has said he served as a historian for the mortgage giant, to which Romney remarked: “That would make him the highest-paid historian in history.” Romney added, “One of the things that I think people recognize in Washington is that people go there to serve the people and then they stay there to serve themselves.”

Ouch!!![:D]

Romney's comment both spotlighted Gingrich's wealth - his campaign earlier this year estimated his net worth at at least $6.7 million - and drew attention to how Gingrich earned the money. The former House speaker made millions as an adviser and influence broker in Washington after leaving Congress, including at least $1.6 million from government-backed mortgage giant Freddie Mac. (Romney has called on Gingrich to return that money.) The former Massachusetts governor also made reference to Gingrich and his wife's onetime $250,000-plus line of credit at Tiffany & Co.

Ooch![:D]

Romney was in New York for fundraisers Wednesday, prompting the Democratic National Committee to hire an airplane to fly over the Hudson river with a banner reading, "Bet you 10k Romney's Out of Touch."

That was fuck`n funny...

"More from the interview will be released on the "CBS Evening News" and CBSNews.com later today.

In a seperate interview with the New York Times Wednesday, Romney took a different shot at Gingrich, saying "Zany is not what we need in a president."

Owe!fuck`n that hurt![:D]

"Zany is great in a campaign. It's great on talk radio. It's great in print, it makes for fun reading," he said. "But in terms of a president, we need a leader, and a leader needs to be someone who can bring Americans together."

Gingrich responded by sticking to his (questionable) claim that he is running a positive campaign and telling reporters, "I'll let him decide what zany is."

"They should run their campaign the way they want to; I'm going to run my campaign the way I want to," he said.

And speaking of "surge"...............

"Shifting Tactics, Romney Attacks Surging Gingrich"

Mr. Romney is seeking to paint Mr. Gingrich as “an unreliable conservative” on issues like climate change. And he is seizing on a remark Mr. Gingrich made this week, condemning Mr. Romney for profiting from layoffs and corporate restructuring he oversaw in his years running Bain Capital, that many conservative commentators said sounded like a Democratic antibusiness refrain.

Mr. Romney said voters should take a closer look at Mr. Gingrich’s history of policy ideas.

“Zany is not what we need in a president,” Mr. Romney said. “Zany is great in a campaign. It’s great on talk radio. It’s great in print, it makes for fun reading, but in terms of a president, we need a leader, and a leader needs to be someone who can bring Americans together.”

Supporters, advisers and donors to Mr. Romney acknowledge a deep sense of concern. Mr. Romney finds himself in the vexing position of being perceived in many polls as the strongest Republican candidate to challenge President Obama by being able to attract moderates and independents, but facing an increasingly difficult battle for the Republican nomination because of resistance to his candidacy among conservatives.

Mr. Romney said he would “keep on battling” if he fell short in the first contests in Iowa, where he has stepped up his efforts in recent weeks, and New Hampshire, which had always seemed to be a secure launching pad for him but now seems to be in play.

His aides are vigorously organizing in Florida, where absentee voting begins right after the New Year, and in states far down the line, to build a backup plan when the nominating battle becomes a delegate fight.

When asked what he would do if he failed to slow Mr. Gingrich or other Republican rivals in the early balloting, Mr. Romney said, “Make sure my message is as clear as it can possibly be and wait for other individuals who might be ahead of me to suffer the agonizing reappraisal and rude awakening.”

That means Mitt plans to stay in till the end and that primary will be very long and entertaining.

Been an interesting week.

We had Mitt look like an absolute dick with his 10 thousand dollar bet, leading Mittens to diss newt for being rich,LOL!!!...then to the loser`s bluff, challanging newt to give back the tax dollars he soaked us for from Fannie-May,in turn leading to newty`s comments about Mitt`s predator-capitalistismm,........that pretty much back-up,explain and vindicate most of the OWS`s positions.

Newty could ironically become the OWS`s posterchild.......for more that one reason![:D]

What newt said.

"Gingrich responded at a morning event in Londonderry, saying he would consider returning his Freddie Mac earnings “if Governor Romney would like to give back all the money he’s earned bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years” — a reference to Romney’s time as head of the private equity firm Bain Capital"

Breaking News! NEWTY JUST JOINED THE OWS!!!!!!!

Brings up an interesting point.  No poor man or woman could ever run for POTUS.  Where did they get their wealth?

Perry - lifelong civil servant.
Gingrich - bribes and kickbacks.
Romney - management (aka - layoffs and offshoring).
Huntsman - inherited wealth (aka sitting on his rump).

Seems all of them are vulnerable based on how they got rich.

Palin's got a different version - she capitalized on her celebrity status and sold books and charged for speeches.

Actually, the bread winner in Obama`s family was his wife and her law firm.

He made whatever the government payed him.During the time she was making a middle-class living starting a law firm, her husband was making zilch as a community volunteer.

Candidate Obama wasn`t sweating rent but he was by no means wealthy. He had to work and bring in a paycheck, just like us all.

Mitt`s got fuck-you money. He doesn`t have to to work or kowtow to anyone.

newty has about 6 million and is almost 70.He has fuck-you money too and can do whatever he wants and his bills get payed.

But you`re correct that joe the plumber will never become POTUS.

How often history tho, does a common person get to the top? It`s happened but the chances are very low.

You usually dont bullshit like this.

Consulting jobs, and even lobbying arent "bribes and kickback", and Bain Capital created 10s of thousands of more jobs than his companys cut or offshored. If even you are getting this asinine, there must be a great fear of both in the Dem camp.

In which case, presumably the Republicans find teh Kenyan even more terrifying than every other scary black man in the country.

(You know: if hysterical asininity is an index of fear...)

I apologize for paraphrasing ol' Newt regarding what Bain did.  And I doubt that you honestly think that Newt's money was earned honestly and that his Fannie Mae payoff of $300K was on the up and up, and that his censure was for honest activities.

His censure was a technicality, his comment on Bain campaign spin. do some research on these companies instead of relying on the usual media suspects. Add up their total employees. They are companies that were at or near bankruptcy or startups Bain funded.

AMC Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Domino's Pizza, DoubleClick, D&M Holdings, Guitar Center, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Sealy, The Sports Authority, Toys R Us, Unisource, Warner Music Group and The Weather Channel.

http://www.collarchat.com/m_3953233/mpage_1/key_surplus/tm.htm#3953354
The same Gingrich who sat as speaker of the House nearly 20 years ago as Congress passed bill after bill benefitting corporate CEO's, at the expense of American workers whose manufacturing jobs were shipped overseas.
And of course once he was tossed out as speaker of the house the budget surplus nearly doubled.
His leadership was budget deficit from 1994-1997 and surplus 1998-1999 but overall his leadership added more debt to the United States.

However the bulk of the surplus was created by Clintons pushing through a tax bill on the rich.

well, since as I pointed out, after he was tossed as speaker of the house, the surplus doubled (this would indicate even to an untrained mind that someone else was speaker of the house) and so in any event he was not the last, and that the entire premise forwarded is of course, as always, fanciful asswipe, not grounded in any factual reality.
