dare I ask?.. How did they get the dog home on the return trip???

I really wish Canada hadn't been mentioned so much.. [&:]

the same way he went. In a comfortable cage, with a wind deflector, that he/she loved riding in. My dog rode 350 miles with his head out of the window the whole way. They all love it.

It just shows a lack of common sense.

Why wouldn`t we strap a child or an adult to a car roof for 12 hrs or for even one minute(other than it being illegal)?

That,it the same reason NOT to strap a dog to the roof.

We had 8 years of a president not thinking actions through before doing them.We can`t afford any more with a Mitt.

Yeah, you see those down here all the time. They use dogs to hunt wild boar here.
Or,...............a clown car full of lefties.
Boy, they're really *reaching* going after Mitt.
I wonder what they're going to say when the women come out of the woodwork saying Oblunder sexually abused them at Columbia?
"Ha! Obama didn't go to Columbia!"
"Oh,..........wait,........he did." I think."
"All of his "friends" at Columbia have all died, ergo no "friends" while at Columbia."

Can anyone translate this for me?

I can see a dog sticking its head out of the window but I wouldn't put a dog kennel on the roof at all.. i would be afraid of it flying off if i had to hit the brakes.. but then i dont think i would want to put a dog in the back of a pick up for the same reason.. they dont do well when they accidentally become flying projectiles..

The kids would just have to scrunch up with the doggie in the back seat..

Owner59 -> RE: Mitt`s dog on car-roof goof won`t go away (12/12/2011 8:31:59 PM)

Showed very poor judgment and lack of concern.

What kind of commander will he be with servicemen`s lives in his hands?

I wonder what his veterinarian would have said if he was asked if it was a good idea?

Transporting animals is not a simple pack`m up`n go thing.There is no doubt that it was the stress that made the dog lose his bowls.

Up to this story I thought of him as a moderate republican and decent guy but not now.

All one has to do is abuse a dog, to get my loathing.God forbid I ever see a clown doing this in R/L.

Because the windshield apparently failed according to the article, and in the back of a pick up truck you're not in danger of being slammed into by flying debris near as bad. You also have some degree of protection from wind and shit, unlike on the top of a car.

Maybe you didnt read this part of it. (Romney constructed a special windshield for the carrier, “to make the ride more comfortable for the dog.” )

Now, what's the difference between that and being in the back of a P/U?

I read it a third time and didnt see where the windshield failed. The author made what I feel is a huge reach and blamed the wind blowing on the dog for a case of diarrhea.
Absolutely no causality shown there. The dog would have probably had the runs no matter where he was.
I think it would take a long time looking thru vetarinary texts to find a link between wind in the face and a case of the doggie splatters.

A much more likey cause would be something to eat that didn't agree with him the night before.

This dog has travelled 40,000 miles in a motorcycle side car. Probably exposed to more wind and a lot of long days. Is this cruel?

yeah, i have heard about a cat that rode on a motorcyle up in front of his owner, he had a little kitty helmet and everything but i wouldnt try that either.. I guess i have seen too many splatted cats on the road.. [:(]

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Mitt`s dog on car-roof goof won`t go away (12/12/2011 9:37:15 PM)

The contraption apparently wasn’t much of a success

A direct quote from the article, maybe that don't mean it failed, but if something wasn't a success, then it certainly didn't work like you intended it to, and the dog was probably stressed out and scared up there.

Do you think the cat would have been ok with riding in a box w/ holes on top a car roof for twelve hours,even with a Mitt Goldberg wind-shield?

Going down the shore as a kid,our cats could barely make the 2 hr trip inside the car.[:D]

What do we know the cons would do if President Obama did something like this?

Lol.....everything.....lol

I got a cartoon idea for this.

Mitt is tooling down the highway<spiny looking wheels on the staionwagon> talking to a reporter in the front seat.

He`s comfy looking and perfectly groomed as he tells the reporter....."and after college, I lived in France for a few years and I can speak French" to wit the reporter answers " Really? That`s interesting"

Meanwhile on the roof is a kennel with Americans inside, looking stressed.

One says " Did he say 12 hours?

Another answers "yeah,... but he said we would get some bathroom breaks"[8|][8D]

Here's another quote from later in the article.

[he said, adding the late Seamus loved riding in the carrier. “He scrambled up there every time we went on trips. He got in all by himself and enjoyed it.”]

Apparently, the dog made multiple trips in the carrier and enjoyed it.

This implies that the windshield DID work. The fact that the dog got the splatters on that one trip had nothing to do with where he was riding except in the author's mind. He ate something that didn't agree with him and got a sick tummy.

The author basically wrote a hatchet piece and made things up where there were no facts to back her point of view.

If you are going to attack someone politically, you need to try to do a couple of things.

1. Make the article about something recent. The incident here happened 28 years ago.

2. Attack politics or policy they are involved in, not what they did on vacation once.

When someone is attacked by the 'lunatic fringe', it actually helps their standing.

Look what happened with Obama and the 'birthers'. I think they actually helped his poll numbers because sane people didn't want to be on the same side as a bunch of lunatics.

xxblushesxx -> RE: Mitt`s dog on car-roof goof won`t go away (12/12/2011 11:36:45 PM)

If my kid enjoys riding strapped onto the top of the car, I'm not putting him/her up there either.

I don't care which party you identify with more, right is right. (and this ain't right)

Ha! "Won't go away." Then it says this "N.Y. Times "columnist" Gail Collins has mentioned this "two dozen times" evidently trying to keep this non-story going ,....for what purpose we don't know.
The N.Y. Times must feel it's such an *important story* that it needs to be written about 2 dozen times? Really, lol
(Mountain meet molehill)
What if they found c^&%d porn on Oblunder's computer? How many times whould she mention that I wonder?
"Hey Gail, BIG story!!!" HUGE!!"
"Oh sorry, I have an appointment to get a pedicure!"
Two dozen times! Now don't you think that's (in my best "Jimmy Canway" voice) *just a little excessive?* "Now, now, it's JUST A LITTLE excessive."
LOL, I told you last year that we'd be seeing stuff like this from the looney left!
"Mitt shows up to speaking function in,.........*UN-SHINED LOAFERS!!!!!" "GAAAAASP!!!!"
"Obama seen pulling a booger and eating it!" "No, No, No,.....kill that! Kill that!"

"The National Enquirer and The New York Times, ....the thinking man's newspapers."

Remind me who it was who was throwing a shitfit about teh Kenyan putting his feet on the desk in the oval office, if we're going to start complaining about ridiculous non stories?

imperatrixx -> RE: Mitt`s dog on car-roof goof won`t go away (12/13/2011 7:36:06 AM)

This is clearly a political issue with much gravitas that will crucially influence whether Romney is able to make an effective President.

That was even more of a non story.
