Make our economy less attractive with new laws and penalties and enforcement or aid the Mexican government to help increase their local economy and opportunities.

Butch

You almost have the Obama immigration plan in a nutshell. Destroy the economy and everyone will self deport.,,,and its working quite well.

Ok, who's seen the Ron White clip where he talks about buying all the Central American countries down to Panama, shrinking that long fence down to a manageable canal?

Is that what he said? He seems to have missed Mexico, lol.

BanthaSamantha -> RE: Securing our southern border (12/6/2011 6:38:36 PM)

If undocumented Latin American immigrants are an invading force, then our country is brimming with secret cells that are actively supporting this force. This invading force comes here for one main reason, for one main type of plunder: jobs. When they get here, they generally don't make their own jobs; no, they get their jobs from traitorous sympathizers. Believe it or not, there are many American companies that openly consort with the enemy, and the lure is powerful. They can pay them a salary, while much lower than what they could pay an American citizen, is still a great deal higher to what the immigrant would get in his home country. It is a mutually beneficial arrangement that keeps the undocumented coming here, and their sympathizers doling out the cash.

If you want to stymie the flow of undocumented immigrants, you need to root out the undocumented sympathizers whom are offering them jobs. A wall (or a land mine network, or a moat filled with sharks with laser beams on their heads, etc.) is only a deterrent, a band aid. It'll make crossing the border more difficult (whether it is cost effective is another matter), but it won't do anything to stop the root cause of the problem.

I agree that corporate sanctions need to be enforced. They are profiting off the backs of those of us who pay taxes and dont buy their products. However, that will stop only those coming here solely for economic reasons if the border isnt also secure, and they arent the only problem.

A nation without borders isnt a nation.

That was the first one he mentioned. Sell this huge airbase S of Cocoa to the Israelis because that middle east thing wasn't working out too well for them and then buy Mexico and flip it. I mean you have all the landscapers and drywall finishers you could want. Then he keeps buying countries down to the Panama canal and there, the border is manageable.

here ya go.

Thanks for the clarification, I'll pass on the link. I dont find him (or any of the "redneck" comics) funny.

I'll try not to hold that against ya. [8D]

Economic motivators are what entice a massive majority of undocumented immigrants. With what is left over, a DMZ style border is either incredibly inefficient in relation to its cost, or ineffective at stopping what is left. Ignoring economic incentives, one of the main reasons for illicit penetration of the border is for the drug and gun trade. These are not people sneaking a handgun and a baggie of pot through the desert. These are sophisticated operations that often cruise right through already heavily defended checkpoints.

While there is nothing wrong with efficient and cost effective border security, this wall that people keep talking about sounds like one big boondoggle.

Most of the drug trade from Mexico is now Pacific Ocean and tunnels from city to city, not checkpoints or trekking through the desert.

All the candidates are promising to do it but can it be done, at what cost and how?

http://news.yahoo.com/promises-promises-securing-us-border-impossible-071019604.html

I have stated this more than a few times Perhaps you were in the shit house and missed it.
The penality for crossing the border into the us illegally is a misdemeanor.
The penality for hiring someone who crosses the border illegally is a felony that carries a $250,000 fine and 5 years in the federal joint (no parole) for each illegal.
Enforce this federal law and there will be no one crossing the border illegally to get a job.
Yes local cops are allowed to enforce federal law.

I'm not interested in your opinion

I did not post an opinion, I posted the law.

nearly so much as I'm interested in how some of these people will support the plans put forth in the article. It should be entertaining.

As for what you have posted before.....unless it was in answer to something I have said, I typically treat it the same way I treat the sound of My bloodhound farting.
I move to the other side of the room and try to pretend it didn't happen.

Self imposed ignorance is it's own reward.
