I'm on the D side of the aisle,yet I still have a great interest in who the Republican side of the aisle nominates as their candidate for President [:D]

When you think about it it is the only game in town for a political minded sort of person right now...I mean its sort of set in stone who our guy is [:D]

Oh I can see that for sure slavemike! And good comedy is at a premium these days too! [:D]

On a more serious note, the creeping paralysis that overtakes government there as the election cycle revolves greatly reduces the time available for the actual government of the State, international affairs and similar trivia. Some sense-of-humour-challenged folk even claim that this is the real task of politics - the naive fools! Other countries have learnt to give up on the task of getting the US to do anything significant as everything else on the agenda gets relegated to the back burner.

Does playing to a domestic audience, endless navel-gazing and pampering to sectional interests replacing genuine policy development act to the detriment of all?

That minor quibble aside, it's a really good laugh this time around! [:D][:D]

The nomination is Romneys or as Mike said Romneys to lose.
If he were to drop out for personal reasons I
think the big boys in the party would throw
their clout behind Perry.
There is no in party divide against Romney
as there was for Clinton. She had a lot of
support and a strong organization but she
also had within the party a strong group
against her. The honchos don't love Romney
but they like him more than they ever liked
McCain. It's the rank and file who are tepid
on Romney which is one reason he will lose
the general election.
Paul has fervent followers but he's considered
a loose cannon within the party and his
age is against him.
Santorum is not ready for prime time and
never will be. His abortion stance makes even
some right-wingers uncomfortable.
I don't say this to be cruel but there is
something about Santorum that comes
off a little unstable. Like Palin he's a little
high strung.
Newt and Bachman are not alternatives to
Romney. He is loathed within the party
and many women and religious voters will
have issues with him. And he's an unlikeable,
unappealing person who if he came close
to being a serious contender would blow just
by being who he is.
Michelle has no real support within the party.
If it came down to Perry and Bachman he
would get the elders and the money.
He would be Bush Jr again but she would be
Palin all over again. The lesser of two evils
would prevail.
The more you look at this crowd the more you
begin to think the republicans are setting
this one out.

Like I said, primaries have a habit of not going to plan.

Edited to add:  I meant that what we're seeing now is the slow jockeying for position.  It's all symbolic until the first vote is cast.

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum wants Google to take his side in a long-running prank perpetuated by Seattle-based sex columnist Dan Savage.

Maybe you’ve noticed that when you search for Santorum’s name, this definition is the first result: “The frothy mix of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex.”

And that’s because Santorum, an outspoken opponent of gay rights, was Google bombed in 2003. Now that he’s running for president, he wants his problem to go away.

Santorum recently told Politico.com that he approached Google about removing the definition, but they declined.

Where was McCain in the polls at this point in the last election?

Anything can happen.

It isn`t because the Rs don`t have a decent candidate to run,just none declared right now.

This strange primary they are going through with their current offerings has more to do with their fear of President Obama than a lack confidence in Mitt or newty.

I disagree.  I'm very impressed with Huntsman, Romney, and Paul for their lack of character issues and evident intelligence.  While I don't always agree with their stances, I find them less slimy than, say, Gingrich.

I've heard that from both sides of the aisle.  It's ridiculous.  The press has an obligation to the citizenry to dig.  But investigative reporting is on the wane.  My personal impression is that it's because investigative reporting costs money and it's far easier to simply take the news as it is spun from the pols, and reprint it verbatim.

If you don't like the lack of coverage that a Dem or Rep gets AT THE TIME, speak up THEN.  Or forever hold your peace.  Anything else just reminds me of two children squabbling, each whining that the other got better treatment.

I agree on both points.Especially the second.

I would call Huntsman, Romney, and Paul the loyal opposition.The others?Something else.

I think a Romney/Obama campaign will be cleaner and more above board,at least with what we`d get from the campaigns themselves.

Going to be interesting no matter what.[:D]

Gingrich is up over Romney in the polls. Who knows where the polls will go as the others drop out but I would give it a 50 / 50 with an edge for Gingrich.   They're both flip floppers but in Gingrich's case I'll take a trip to fantasy land and believe it to be a ruse to make him look more moderate, whatever that is. 

  What kills me is all the goofy speculation from the libs here when it really doesn't matter who is nominated.  Whether it's
Donald Duck or Daffy Duck, Obama doesn't stand a chance.

Romney has a better chance to steer the election to Obama's record and the actual issues and force Obama to take the defensive.

Newt has a helluva lot more baggage than that mostly because he's been around a lot longer LOL.

You also have to look at that particular election. After 8 years of Dubya, I think John Wayne Gacy could have won on the D ticket. All the Democrat candidate had to say was "I'm not Bush" and watch the votes come rolling in.
