"Representatives for leading social conservative groups in Iowa held a secret meeting Monday as part of an effort with one main goal: find and support a Republican presidential candidate who can stop Mitt Romney in Iowa.

The idea: avoid splintering the conservative vote in the state by rallying around one GOP rival who could win Iowa's Jan. 3 caucus and then challenge Romney in New Hampshire and the other early voting states.

Many social conservatives and other religious leaders in the state have openly labeled the former Massachusetts governor as a "flip-flopper," a criticism the campaign frequently beats back, while others have seen Romney's Mormon faith as an issue. And many of them have openly hoped for someone to emerge as a viable alternative to the former Massachusetts governor."



That last sentence pretty much sums up this election cycle.

Poor Mitt.

What the fundies don`t know is that Mitt WILL win NH.Possibly more early primaries.

But the fundies will be Mitts biggest obstacle to winning the GOP nod.

In Massachusetts, we don't call Mitt Romney a "flip-flopper". We describe him as the governor who made Mike Dukakis look stubborn about maintaining a position.

Dumb.  Dumb, dumb.

In Colorado, Dick Wadhams, the chairman of the GOP, held a closed door meeting to anoint the GOP gubernatorial candidate and selected Scott McInnis.  All other Republicans agreed to not run except for some nobody named Dan Maes.  Just before the primary, it came out that McInnis had accpeted a sweetheart deal in which he got paid $300K over two years for writing stuff about water rights, in which his contract pledged to be original thoughts and writings.  He plagiarized the work and then tried to foist off the blame on a ghostwriter.  Dan Maes actually got elected the GOP candidate despite nobody knowing anything about him, and was so weak and cluelessly unethical that Tom Tancredo jumped in as a third party candidate.  Maes barely pulled 10% of the vote and, had he not gotten 10%, the GOP would have been relegated to minor party status in Colorado, with fundraiwing limitations.

Moral - never deny the voters the ability to vote.

Who would have ever thought it was possible to feel bad for Mitt Romney...lol. It like having an electorate that prefers Velveeta over Parmigiano.

"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has received the coveted endorsement of the highly-influential Manchester Union Leader in New Hampshire, a boost for the 2012 Republican presidential candidate and a blow to rival Mitt Romney.

The endorsement of the conservative newspaper's editorial board places an exclamation point on Gingrich's impressive surge from has-been GOP contender to frontrunner, and sets him apart as the new anti-Romney candidate among his competitors."


In NH,this endorsement is hugely important.Mitt was counting on it.So it goes to the latest GOPFOW.

Now that's harsh. Dukakis was flip flopping long before that became an insult. The lad had even less backbone than teh Kenyan, which is no mean feat.

Boy ... you know a lot about what American politics from back when you were like 7 or 8.

You're actually beyond wrong. A) He didn't become all that indecisive till he was being asailed every waking moment by Howie Carr, fat fuck journalist who is the biggest and most open racist/hater in New England... Howie used to attack blacks every friday, by letting a really racist elderly man on his show to rant about "coons" and "chinamen" in the neighborhoods he was frequently carted away from for being a public nuisance.
    Romney has it down to within a 24 hour period. In fact the only flipflopping record he hasn't set is the Same town/Same day flip flop... which I am sure he's working on.
It's just so hard to pull that one off and remain a candidate. But as this video shows, that's CLEARLY what he is working on.

Along those lines, Blitzer posted a short piece saying that Mitt's been benefiting all along from a Balkanization of the conservative candidates, and that Cain's prospective withdrawal will hurt him and help whichever candidate is the non-Romney du jour (currently Newt).  http://situationroom.blogs.cnn.com/2011/11/29/blitzers-blog-if-cain-drops-out/

#1 I seriously doubt it was any coincidence that Mitt layed low while Herman Cain and Rick Perry were reduced to minor threats. Either someone told him what was going down or he knew because he was the purveyor of the political capital. I have NO DOUBT whatsoever that this last one is the product of someone spending the big bucks. It would be great to know a few months from now she becomes a board member of.8-).

#2 I think the proof positive that he is a melonhead is that he clearly didn't see Gingrich maneuvering the for the 11 pointer surge with The Union.

#3 It's going to be goddamned interesting who Cain throws his support behind between now and nest Monday. I have a feeling he knows who did him. My bet is the support will go anywhere but Romney. If Cain is smart, he'll hedge his bets and give his support to Gingrich, and if he's just a dope, or merely vindictive, Huntsman or Perry. Either of which are throw aways of some pretty good leverage.

Brilliant analysis by Blitzer lol. Cain and Newt are far more conservative than Romney, obviously Newt is going to pick up the majority of Cain's supporters. Its a two horse race at this point.

A "race"? Like, as in people running, sprinting ....? If so, a three-legged race for geriatrics with bonus points for whoever stumbles the most comes close to capturing the spirit of the event.

I'm breathless with anticipation. The runners .... well, they're breathless from something else - at their age, shortage of breathe is the most likely candidate (and possibly the only genuine candidate on the GOP horizon).

Is the GOP really planning on gifting the White House to Obama? Sure looks that way. [:D]

Huntsman's increase in popularity is the worst possible news for Romney.  They draw from a similar base.

I'm still convinced Huntsman is the best of the lot,I am equally convinced he does not have a snowballs chance in hell of getting the nomination.Romney will get it,but in doing so he will move too far right to have much of a chance in the general.
