GreedyTop -> Region 2 DVDs (11/21/2011 9:16:16 AM)

will they play on US machines? if not, what do I need to do to convert it to playability? I've checked the sites for my laptop and my home player, with EVERY FRIGGIN VARIATION on phrasing that I can think of, and invariably get answers to COMPLETELY unrelated issues.

Get yourself an old Playstation2.

If it's been modded to play back ups, that includes a permanent DVD region hack. Also the games are only $1 now.

PeonForHer -> RE: Region 2 DVDs (11/21/2011 12:10:07 PM)

As alternative, you could play it on your pc or laptop. The vlc player is a freebie and will play almost anything.

Moonhead -> RE: Region 2 DVDs (11/21/2011 12:14:45 PM)

PS2s can go for quite a bit now, though: I suspect that's part of the reason. GT can probably get a ownbrand DVD player for less.

Buy a Philips DVP5990 DVD player. They can be hacked using the remote control in under a minute to be region free. As an added plus they have a USB port on the front and will play most popular pc video formats. You can download content of the net and play it from one of those small USB hard drives.

Yeah k-lite has just about every codec there is. It also includes a player modeled on the old Windows player that should play dvd's.
