Yay for the girls questioning things.

Did any of yall actually read the article?  They were home schooled, and only began to question racist views after going to public school.

Being exposed to different viewpoints apparently constitutes "brainwashing", lol.

You have erred, not in facts but in conclusion. There were tax supported schools when Ron Paul went to school but I really don't know if the one(s) to which he went were or not. However at that time the federal government had very very little to do with it. In fact back then a diploma from certain cities/states whatever were considered better than others. People carried their diploma with them if they traveled, it wasn't in a PDF on the web somewhere.

I'm trying my memory here, he was born in 1935 which would make him 18 in 1953. Even if there was some federal money coming to his primary school, he could actually think (maybe right) thsat they could've done without it.

I have my own peeves about Ron Paul, but I think he gets the axe unfairly sometimes. He intends to operate on the federal level. When he says he wants to get out of education that means that he wants to get the federal government the fuck out of it, not abolish it totally.

He wold still make the best President, honestly if I voted for him it would be the lesser of two evils. This abortion shit just puts him in my doghouse. MY major proble with the good doctor is the bill he introduced as a congressman which is just about what they wanted to do in one of those southern states - define life beginning as conception.

The only reason I would vote for him is because i know there is no fucking way he would ever get Roe v Wade overturned.

T^T

Actually, you misunderstand my meaning. In 1953 Duke University would not have accepted someone from his background with a home education. Public education in Pittsburgh began in 1835. If we look at the way the "sons" of the Founding Fathers were educated, the land owners and the rich were the ones that sent their males for a formal education. Its Ron Paul's contention that we should never have had a public education system. He neglects, conveniently, that without that education, he never would have become a physician.

In reality of course, this is just more typical wild-eyed far left smear and spin as Paul advocates closing the department of Education, but not dismantling public schools.

Close the Department of Education... thats all... nothing more... except its odd how he didnt specify that it would only be at the federal level. Each state has a Department of Education as well.

President Ronald Reagan promised during the 1980 presidential election to eliminate the Department of Education as a cabinet post,[9] but he was not able to do so with a Democratic House of Representatives. In the 1982 State of the Union Address, he pledged:
“ The budget plan I submit to you on Feb. 8 will realize major savings by dismantling the Department of Education.[10]

Recall that?

Employees 5,000 (2007)
Annual budget For 2006, the ED discretionary budget was $56 billion and the mandatory budget contained $23.4 billion. As of 2011, the discretionary budget is $69.9 billion.

DOD budget...

2010 689 Billion.

1/10th of the budget compared to defense.

1.2 Trillion spent on the Iraq and Afghan wars.... http://costofwar.com/en/

But, yeah, MAJOR savings. Right?

How I adore your fantasy world.

Your a liar, the government spent 900.2 Billion in 2011 on education, nice try trying to compare the federal education budget to the federal defense budget.

Tell me Liar, how much do the states spend on defense, compared to education? Here's a hint, ZERO!

Ah, according to your source, robbie boy...

Federal spending on Education...129 billion

States spent 237 Billion

Local spent 624 Billion

Considering, according to the above posts, he was speaking only of the Federal level, there is no MAJOR savings by cutting the Department of Education

But thank you for pointing out how right I am.

Saw through that clusterfuck didya ?

Here's my idea of what the federal education budget should be - maybe a quarter mil.

This is for ONE EDUCATED MF to standardize tests which must be passed for a nationally accepted diploma.

End of story.

As for Duke's entrance prerequisites, that is their business. Some school somewhere will accept almost anyone for money. I know that was before the GED, what did people do, go back to school at forty after they kicked the kids out ?

Ron Paul's specific situation is in need of clarification here. If no FEDERAL money funded his primary educators, would they have closed up shop and got a job at the Dew Drop Inn ? I think not. Local taxes might have been higher. I really don't know, but Ron Paul's position on it is from the perspecive of the feds. That the FEDERAL government should get the fuck out of it. It's not like he's running for mayor on a platform of tearing down all the schools in the city.

There is a difference.

"Your a liar, the government ................"

Y'know, when you throw that word around you destroy your own credibility and exhibit a trait of one of lower intelligence and maturity. You should stop that else you eventually have absolutely no respect left.

If your ego needs a boost take a lesson from Hunky and write "WRONG".

And BTW, it's "You're a liar" not "Your a liar".

Oh yeah, Montana schools are a beacon of light in these troubled times

quote:

A new report says Montana has one of the highest high school dropout rates in the country.

The new Kids Count report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation says 9 percent of Montana teens ages 16 to 19 had dropped out of high school, putting Montana in a tie for 44th worst among the states. Montana's dropout rate in 2000 was 7 percent.

But I'm sure it's not the teacher's fault

That's an amazing twist of logic even for you.

Let me see if I have this right.

Kids quit school and it is the fault of the teachers?

T, Paul's position is that there never should have been a DoE to begin with. One of the missions of the DoE is...

to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access.

ED delivers about 99 cents on the dollar in education assistance to States, school districts, postsecondary institutions, and students.

http://www2.ed.gov/about/overview/fed/role.html

And my point is.. without the public education in this country, Ron Paul would have never had the educational chances afforded to him to become the Physician he is today.

It isnt about federal money... it isnt about loans.

It IS about money. How many poor people went to school at all?

How many people in the farm income level went to a University.

No, there is not a difference.

Our education standards have fallen well behind many other countries.

What would you judge as more important, contributing to the education of our children or buying more military hardware?

Military might does not make a nation strong, economic strength does, and that is based on having a well-educated population.

Something Ron Paul does not understand.

Tell me again how any POTUS cutting all education funding he controls could result in savings equal to more than 20% of defence spending.

Also are you really sure you want to stick to states spend nothing on defence?

Explain to me how it is so bad for the federal government to be using our tax dollars for education but you are advocating local and state governments to do the same???????????

The federally budgeted (see below) military expenditure of the United States Department of Defense for fiscal year 2010, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is[8]:

Components

Funding

Change, 2009 to 2010

Operations and maintenance

$283.3 billion

+4.2%

Military Personnel

$154.2 billion

+5.0%

Procurement

$140.1 billion

−1.8%

Research, Development, Testing & Evaluation

$79.1 billion

+1.3%

Military Construction

$23.9 billion

+19.0%

Family Housing

$3.1 billion

−20.2%

Total Spending

$685.1 billion

+3.0%
You're off by a factor of 3 rob.

Sorry bout the formatting.
