Uh....I didn't see any bats. Round worms (eww), but no bats....

LafayetteLady -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 10:02:54 AM)

Were these the bats you were talking about?

Baby bats

They are so cute in their little blankies with their little pacifiers!

FR:

Here's a try at putting up the correct link.

Orphaned Bats

Edited to add:

Oh...  you beat me to it, LafayetteLady.  [:)]

The bats are kinda cute in their own special way.   I do agree with the round worm sentiments, though.  [:'(]

Would you rather see square or triangular worms?[8D]

LafayetteLady -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 10:22:12 AM)

I think it was how they were swaddled in their little blankies, with the little pacifiers. That did it for me.

GreedyTop -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 10:23:09 AM)

wasnt that just the CUTEST!!?? and the one near the end that YAWNED!!!

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 10:23:18 AM)

Last spring I was cleaning stalls at night, and a bat flew in the barn.  I started screaming like a little girl, and waving the pitch fork around, until I ran out of the barn.  So, I guess I am afraid of bats.  I wouldn't dare watch the video.

GreedyTop -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 10:25:55 AM)

no.. this one is safe.. they are BABIES!! SWADDLED!!

(trust me.. I had a bad bat experience when I lived in MI... mid winter, it lived in the attic, found a way out during a peaceful night watching TV.. seriously a NOT GOOD EXPERIENCE, since it emerged from behind the TV stand... we sicced the cat on it, but it STILL took a broom to get it OUT)

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 10:27:35 AM)

Well, OK, I'll be brave.  I didn't even know I was afraid of bats until that incident.  The bat kept coming back in the barn too, it took an hour to clean stalls that night.  Maybe he thought the whole thing was hilarious?

GreedyTop -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 10:29:17 AM)

bats are mammals. it has been proven that mammals (regardless of species) have a sense of humour!!

(btw, you have mail...)

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 10:31:34 AM)

They look like adorable little puppies!

I found it interesting that the parents died after coming into contact with "deadly ticks".  I hate ticks way more than I do bats.  So, I hope the rescue attempt is extremely successful.

Yea, there is something not "cute" about a bat when it is screeching and circling your head! Especially, if like me, you have long hair (to my butt) that is coarse and wavy and you grew up hearing how they would try to "nest" in your head!

Ticks?! I know "arachnophobia" is a fear of spiders, what is it for fear of bugs in general? I have been known to get a neighbor child to kill some of the more frightening ones.

He was probably after the mosquitos that were trying to feast on you and your horses. (I know, that doesn't matter, it's still a FUCKING BAT EEEEEEEEEEEEEEK)

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 11:45:25 AM)

I know, the bat was only looking for bugs.  Good on him.  However, my sub conscious was convinced he wanted to get tangled up in my hair.  I found I wasn't so afraid once I put a hat on.

The video refers to the baby bats as flying foxes.  I think of them more as flying rats.

Is that some myth parents told their children when they were little in our generation or what?

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Orphaned bats!! (11/18/2011 12:19:44 PM)

I don't know.  My parents told me that eagles were going to carry me away if I was bad, I don't remember them mentioning anything about bats.  I think my fear of bats came from watching too many episodes of Dark Shadows when I was a kid.  I am pretty sure bats were always getting tangled in people's hair on that show.

I was walking through MacArthur park many years ago at night and saw some bats. But that has been the only time.
