They find more common ground than you would expect.

I would love to see more of this.

Especially this part.

"As the meeting closed, the Occupy Memphis members were inviting tea party members to join them at Civic Center Plaza, and everyone shared chocolate chip cookies."

I found this kind of funny

Pete Dresser, 68 and retired, said the meeting confirmed what he believed about the Occupy movement.

"It's a ramshackle movement that is not organized, not focused and more emotional than purposeful," Dresser said.

It's funny only because Dresser will be dead soon.

That's nice. they've always had an invitation to defect you know. What do you think all the Ron Paulers not defecting back when the 'strategists' in the disorganized (maybe) part of Paul's campaign came trying to co-opt the movement in it's first 2 weeks. Most of course left, but we absorbed plenty. And now that they've learned not to hijack GAs they're getting along fine.
This week Paul's campaign is sending Jesse Ventura after us. There is much mirth over this.

I would too. But there are some limitations such as GOP interference. Let's be clear on what the synergy is here. We'll look forward to their support on certain issues and if they sponsor something that isn't simply austerity based "refuse to invest" legislation we may end up throwing them support.
And the tea party people I have really heard of them reaching/getting along with are those who regard themselves as "independents" mostly. And if the Tea Party ceases practices of trolling facebook pages designed to get our word out, things will get even better.
In Massachusetts, however as well as most of the northeast for that matter. The local Tea Party would do well to stop calling people communist/socialist/bum, etc. There is no March to Tea Party headquarters, in fact there hasn't even been a boxing in of Romney's office (which logistically, is a slam-dunk if we ever go for it... they'll never know what hit em, easy course change off one of the regular routes). Contrastingly, people with vehicles even identifiable from their stickers, have actually been throwing thing at protesters like half-full cups of hot coffee.

So basically, when you have their ear, tell em to tone it the fuck down. It's making matters worse.

He should avoid focusing on the light then.

"not organized, not focused and more emotional than purposeful"

Not sure if the Ts realize this or not but that`s the beauty part, not the down side.

Those are the very qualities that make OWS authentic and genuine.

Sex doesnt need meaning, unless all you can persuade into your bed is a Jackson White. Then it is its own meaning.

kdsub -> RE: TEA and OWS have a meeting (11/18/2011 7:21:53 PM)

I thought the movement was supposed to be apolitical ..at least in reference to party. And open to all ideals that share the wealth. Why start talking about republicans and tea party members as being limited to what you think relevant to the movement? Who the hell are you?

I think it is a recognition, as I said above, that the only way OWS will ever have any meaningful impact is to align itself with one of the two parties. Since they fancy themselves 21st century hippies, that naturally will be the Democrat party, The few ideals they profess are actually better aligned with conservatism, but the results they actually want are socialist. Its difficult to talk out of both sides of your mouth at the same time.
