No money for Schools but there is now a Flying Bomb

Is there an assumption here that more money equals better education?

Kirata, great question.
Here in Horry Co. S.C. (pronounced "Oh-Ree") I think the schools are getting right around 65% of all tax dollars.
And they're always asking for more, more, more, more!
And I think they're at around 20 students per classroom! When I went to school we had between 40-45 students per classroom.
I know a retired teacher from NYC who used to drink with the author Frank Mc Court ("Angela's Ashes") and went to Catholic school in the 1950's and had * 70 * kids in his class.
And today we're getting graduates who don't know history, geography, math, or civics. You ask them who their congressman and senators are and their eyes glaze over.
And, they spend five times as much on inner city schools.
We get students with huge egos and who demand "respect" without knowing how to earn it or give respect.
Look at those interviews that Jay Leno does with college kids and graduates.
"When did the Civil War take place?"
"Ahhhh,....in the 1950's?"
And they want "more" money for,....."education?"
Some of the dumbest people I've ever met had college "degrees," and some of the brightest people I've ever met quit high school and started their own businesses.
We still have people alive today who went to one-room school houses and got an outstanding education!
But today they're not getting enough money! Go figure!

P.S. Oh yeah, and no more dodge ball because the fat kids always get hit and it's bad for their,....."self esteem."
Twinkies and donuts are "bad for their self esteem."
Nothing that a fast car and a long rope wouldn't take care of.
"Gee, ever since Johnny started excercising and stopped eating like a pig he never gets hit playing dodge ball anymore!"

Well when the schools are not getting funding and there is HOARDS of stats on this. I know plenty of teachers and they hip me to the state and iti s abysmal. One hour of art classes per week, I mean seriously that is such a train wreck. They are shutting Libraries and Museums wtf is up with that? They need to find a less expensive way to deal with evildoers than building flying bombs to blow up small countries.

The way some of you talk to YDB, grossly racist, your momma dint raise you that way did she? Or did she?

You might want to complete your first sentence, and "hip me to the state"? What century are you in?

As far as DYB goes, he is a self-admitted racist and liar, at which point he went on ignore for me. However, those that address him in the same manner he addresses them are certainly not at fault.

Dont like my vernacular, oh dear, what to do, what to do?

DYB is a self admitted racist? Is that the reason you are? He is a liar? Um.

Tell me. . . how would you feel if the Palestinians had this bomb to lob at the Jews? If I recall correctly, you pretty much think that they should be wiped off the map.

I seriously wonder if some of you listen to yourselves.

You are talking about a bomb that flies subsonic and costs $69 million to test. What chance is there that the Palestinians will build one to fire 2 miles over the border ?

The Op has a valid point, are you all happy with a bomb costing this much, of tax payers hard earned money, being produced, while those producing it know it will probably never be fired in anger ?

Anyone care to stand up and say military projects are not a business, since there are many that will get rich producing these, at no benefit to the general US citizen.

Two things:

1. Do you realize the spin off technologies that come from these types of things? So yes, as defense and deterent it benefits the general welfare. Also with the spin offs it benefits them even more in ways that are not realized.

2. Just how awesome is it that it looks like a Nerf Dart! WOOT! http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2011/11/2400-miles-in-minutes-hypersonic-weapon-passes-easy-test/

3. You probably do not like the space program either.

They just love seeing their stuff in print. Our Education System is a process of paying it forward. And simply put when they get old and their kids are out the door, they don't want to pay for it anymore. but the simple fact is that OTHER COUNTRIES are investing heavily in education infrastructure and they are the very same countries moving past us. And YEAH it costs more these days, and YEAH we should demand better of the people administering and delivering education. but nothing excuses letting it rot on the vine, or make up parables about dodgeball.

Dont conflate the space program with weapons of war. I am aware they started out along similar lines though.

I just feel $69 million of tax payers money spent on research for health, would have just as many spin offs as that spent on weaponry.

Sorry to bust your bubble but the enire early space program WAS a weapon of war.

Hell, the first launches were atop a barely converted ICBM.

Be nice if the whole world would stop plotting and planning to blow each other up. All that money, time and resources could be put to so much better use. Thank you.

Personally, if i could shift this military money somewhere else it would be to exotic propulsion systems or perhaps battery technology, or something new in energy production. We have to start doing technological things that set us apart again.
If we can only generate something that has a vast manufacturing base or many many small ones, they won't have choice but to invest in education/ The 60s and even the 50s had a lot of that going on. And that's part of why we have all these semi-retired know-it-alls laying around flapping their gums about ditching on educational responsibilities. They were educated enough to contribute a bit and be even more annoying.

Pssst, I was responding to post 32. Logical thinkers are linear.

Our posts were also not exactly the same. Mine went to strategy, while yours more to mechanics.

But welcome to the darkside anyway.

Nice lie there in the title...

The Government spent 900.2 BILLION on Education in 2011
The Government spent 904.3BILLION on Defense in 2011
http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/year_spending_2011USbn_13bs1n#usgs302

You really want to whine about no money for education?
