MistressDarkArt -> Blue Shield Premium Went DOWN... (11/15/2011 10:35:00 PM)

...by $20 per month, starting 2012.

Anyone else with Blue Shield notice a reduction for next year's rates? Believe me, I'm not complaining! I'm grateful! Curious why though...

Is it for the same coverage?

I haven't gotten a rate notification yet, but I'll watch.

Is Blue Shield what you get through your employer?

Yes, same (shitty catastrophic) coverage through my ex-employer (I'm retired.)

Super blue is only available to certain people, I can't get it. My buddy used to have it. It's about the best you can get, some masons etc. can get it, I'm not sure who else. It is the $60,000-500,000 crowd, and their employer pays it. It covers no matter what. However it is based on group participation and the company has a really weird payment plan. the dues are paid at a low level, when claims are made the rates go up for not just the company, but for the whole union. The only reason they can get this is because they are a healthy bunch, otherwise they wouldn't be able to do the job.

Only certain people can get it though, and the details on that are not the subject now, suffice it to say it is for people in good physical shape or better.

I won't get a rate notification until sometime in May or June, probably.  Though my employer will probably take the savings for themselves and have us employees continue paying the same premiums.  That's fine, as far I'm concerned, I pay only $34 twice a month for my insurance while my employer (a nonprofit mental health treatment facility) pays a few hundred per employee.  It would be nice to see the agency's rates go down so that they can put the savings into treating clients by improving programs and maybe even develop new ones.

Is this Blue CROSS or Blue SHIELD....because I've NEVER seen a premium go down!

As for premium amount...I'd be more than happy to pay less than $670.+ per month...and that's with no lingering or catastrophic illness to boot.
I'm so healthy, my doc called ME up for a visit because I WASN'T getting sick! Imagine that!
