So do not lump all of us conservatives and Republicans into one negative category.

Its the only way they can score any "points". Take what one (supposed) conservative does and label the whole group with them.

Lucylastic -> RE: Enjoy your Veterans' Day celebrations (11/11/2011 5:47:22 PM)

hmmmm out of all who posted about veterans day, only the OP made it political... so I call bullshit
.
But hey, why not lump all lefties together, or is that the only way you can score some points?

Termyn8or -> RE: Enjoy your Veterans' Day celebrations (11/11/2011 5:47:39 PM)

FR

The one thing they had going for them was getting jobs at the post office. Now even that is shutting down.

Some fucking country we are. Out here beating the fuck out of everyone to make them accept our "special" form of "democracy" originating from this republic, the people who do the actual work are forgotten. Well that is the way of the world.

They say they won't take you if you're too old, and I guess that is regardless of physical condition. You know why they won't take you ? Because you know too much, if you even try to enlist you are either stupid, crazy or an infiltrator. They only ones who will work for them are the young and inexperienced in life, who get taken by fake patriotism, slogans and the promise of a soon to be worthless college education. Anyone with a future will not enlist.

That's not to put it on them. They did what they thought was right. They served their country, there is no taking that back, but many others knew that the government would fuck them over sooner or later and avoided it. I was not draft age, but if I was I would most likely be in Canada hanging with Bob and the blondes.

But at 19 or 20 ? Dunno. I would've never enlisted because of what it is. I was not issued, the military is like being in fucking jail, face it. For most enlistees it is like voluntary jail before they send you to the real one. Or it was.

And what's more, if you are as radical as me, think about this. How do you recind an oath ? I won't even recite the pledge of allegiance.

Go ahead and hate me but this stands. Lennon was right - what if they gave a war and nobody came ? Let the fucking suits duke it out, or call in mercenaries. That's cool becasue then they deal with and depend on motherfuckers who are just as ruthless as they. Pay them three grand a week to take over some country for your gaddamn oil pipeline. What do you think Afghanistan was all about from the gitgo ?

Our military was not intended for this shit, it was intended for the defense of this fucking country. That's it. I don't care what any Sheik, Iatolla, or other maniac does across the world. You get badass enough to attack us we will turn you into a glass parking lot, end of story. I don't care about their Women or children or anything else, kill them all. Swift and effective. No more threat. Fuck all this wreck our economy shit - and fuck free trade as well. Fuck it all.

We should be doing what we are supposed to be doing.

T^T

whipher1 -> RE: Enjoy your Veterans' Day celebrations (11/12/2011 2:13:22 PM)

just want to wish all my brothers a belated happy veterans day.... welcome home

now lets get the story straight... you people always say its the people on the right that did this and that.... try this on for size...

remember the gulf of tonkin, that was with a democratic president and a democratic congress that put us into the vietnam war.... with the biggest lie of the century..... 58 thousand US dead, 2 million cambodians, 3 million vietnamese and maybe 700 thousand hmongs dead over this lie.... seems funny how you people forget in 50 years about who started the war and why...

i guess you also forgot "hey hey LBJ" .... he is the one that took the gulf of tunkin lie and turned it into a war.... as for bush and iraq.... just think what would have happened if saddam would have said yeah come on in and look around for WMD's ... look anywhere you want to look.... what a different world this would be today.. but its not.. he said "fuck you i aint showing you shit" .... so i hope all of you have a good week.... SUPPORT THE VETS OF ALL WARS

punisher440 -> RE: Enjoy your Veterans' Day celebrations (11/13/2011 6:36:42 AM)

Care to show a link for this?Because what I have found is a far lower number.
http://rt.com/usa/news/homeless-veterans-die-percent-143/

quote:

A new study reveals that while veterans represent only 9 percent of the population nationwide, 15.2 percent of America’s homeless have served their country — and when compared to non-veterans, they are much more likely to die on the streets.

And from the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans own website http://www.nchv.org/background.cfm
quote:

Although flawless counts are impossible to come by – the transient nature of homeless populations presents a major difficulty – VA estimates that 107,000 veterans are homeless on any given night. Over the course of a year, approximately twice that many experience homelessness. Only eight percent of the general population can claim veteran status, but nearly one-fifth of the homeless population are veterans.

Yes,20% is too many..but no where close to the 43% you try to claim while blaming the problem on conservatives.Next you try to find better sources to quote for your hatred of conservatives.

Well I am a conservative and a Republican and not only do I work within a non-profit helping out homeless veterans and getting them access to resources that can best assist them, but I also donate my free time in the evenings and on weekends to assist with clothing drives, food programs, and community connections to help them get hired. So do not lump all of us conservatives and Republicans into one negative category.

*Note: It appears this posting says that it was in response to kdsub. It was not and no slight was intended towards them because of it.

So you are admitting you are a socialist.

I'm going to call Rick Perry right now and tell him what a traitor you are.

Were you asleep during all of that Rip Van Winkle?

The inspectors were allowed in and found nothing, but Bush decided to wage the war the neo-cons had wanted for over a decade.

Willbeur, it starts to get tiring when I keep having to correct your ignorance.

U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix faults Bush Administration for ..

"There were about 700 inspections, and in no case did we find weapons of mass destruction," said Hans Blix, the Swedish diplomat called out of retirement to serve as the United Nations' chief weapons inspector from 2000 to 2003; from 1981 to 1997 he headed the International Atomic Energy Agency. "We went to sites [in Iraq] given to us by intelligence, and only in three cases did we find something" - a stash of nuclear documents, some Vulcan boosters, and several empty warheads for chemical weapons. More inspections were required to determine whether these findings were the "tip of the iceberg" or simply fragments remaining from that deadly iceberg's past destruction, Blix said he told the United Nations Security Council. However, his work in Iraq was cut short when the United States and the United Kingdom took disarmament into their own hands in March of last year. Blix accused U.S. President George W. Bush and U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair of acting not in bad faith, but with a severe lack of "critical thinking." The United States and Britain failed to examine the sources of their primary intelligence - Iraqi defectors with their own agendas for encouraging regime change - with a skeptical eye, he alleged. In the buildup to the war, Saddam Hussein and the Iraqis were cooperating with U.N. inspections, and in February 2003 had provided Blix's team with the names of hundreds of scientists to interview, individuals Saddam claimed had been involved in the destruction of banned weapons. Had the inspections been allowed to continue, Blix said, there would likely be a very different situation in Iraq today. As it was, America's pre-emptive, unilateral actions "have bred more terrorism there and elsewhere."

I'm not going to defend LBJ over the Gulf of Tonkin, but you blaming the whole war on that one incident is simply not true.

It still was a cold war mentality.  Remember the domino theory for Southeast Asia?

Fightdirecto -> RE: Enjoy your Veterans' Day celebrations (11/14/2011 5:57:50 AM)

As someone who lived through it (including 366 days in Viet-Nam as a member of the U.S. Army 1970-1971), my opinion is that the Viet-Nam War cannot be blamed on either political party. The blame is equally shared by both Democrats and Republicans.

I do blame an individual (but not a party), Richard "Tricky Dick" Nixon, for keeping the war going for almost 5 years longer than it should have, when there could have been a negotiated peace right after his election in 1968. He only pulled the troops out in an unsuccessful attempt to divert the American voters from the Watergate mess. If the crimes of Watergate had not been exposed, we probably would have had troops fighting in Viet-Nam until at least 1975.
