FatDomDaddy -> Modern Idolatry, Paterno, Sandusky, Edwards and Cain (11/9/2011 5:29:28 PM)

This is an OUTSTANDING article! And the Edwards/Cain analogies at the end are equally thought provoking.

It is amazing how many people want to give Paterno a pass on all of this!

DarkSteven -> RE: Modern Idolatry, Paterno, Sandusky, Edwards and Cain (11/9/2011 6:18:44 PM)

The basic gist of the article is that the truth has become increasingly irrelevant.  Sandusky, assuming he's guilty, has been given a free pass because of the perceived importance of Penn State football.    Cain's been given a pass by the conservative commentators, who claim this is a lynching of a black man, and condemned by the liberals - the reverse of the situation with Edwards.

The truth is becoming increasingly irrelevant....

The basic gist is that idolatry is becoming the center of our social fabric and we all too often judge "good" or "evil" on how it affects us, not on a moral truth.

Moral Relativism.

Welcome to Obtuse101

The only significant aspect of the whole Sandusky/Paterno/McQuear/Spanier is Criminal Obstruction, Failure Of Mandatory Reporting, and of course Child Molestation.
Maybe it's because I have young kids and an overly litigious Ex that worries me whenever she walks off with my kids, but moral relativism just doesn't feel like something I can discuss.
I'll leave this to the more detached.

What I found interesting was when I clicked on your link a Cain campaign ad popped up.

That's pretty thought provoking to me.

So then we can take it that you find Herman Cain immoral.

Because that is what this thread is really about, trying to deflect attention away from his antics.

If not for that we wouldn't have a thread about a football program's problems in P&R.

Owner59 -> RE: Modern Idolatry, Paterno, Sandusky, Edwards and Cain (11/9/2011 10:37:20 PM)

Pretty stupid article...

Penn State students chant/riot

This is more about goony sport heads. They`ll put up with a lot of crap if games are being won.

When OJ was 1st arrested, the sports community stood up for him for quite a while, till it was clear he was a murderer.

"He`s a Heisman trophy winner" was mentioned over and over.Like that made him an angel or something.

Consensual sex, even dirty wild consensual sex has nothing to do with preditory,coerced,non-consensual sexual assault/abuse/harassment.

erieangel -> RE: Modern Idolatry, Paterno, Sandusky, Edwards and Cain (11/9/2011 10:44:26 PM)

And from what the Herman Cain accuser who spoke the other day, it sounds more like assault than harassment.

Actually, the "Herman Cain" story has little to do with the article, other than as another example.  Probably the author was reading or listening to the Penn State story and was shaking his head and thinking "How the hell did we come to this?", and then had an epiphany of thought about several other recent events, giving a common baseline to them all.

So he wrote the article about that apparent "common basis".

He is not "supportive" of Cain in the article.  In fact, I think he's the radio talk show guy who feed the flames about Cain ...

But you - in particular - have to prove his exact point correct, with the inability to read anything other than partisanship into what he is saying.

Why is Cain`s name in the title?Or Edward`s name?

Because some nit-wit con contritutor had to write something for his wit-wit right-wing rag, to make his deadline.Fail....!

I guess in the con mind this works but it`s kinda lame.

Don't stop there:

Why is marital infidelity equated with sexual harassment and possibly sexual assault, re the idiotic comparison of Edwards to Cain?

Politicians, marital infidelity? I am shocked, SHOCKED! I say!

This idiot opinionator in the article claims that "For example, many Democrats stood silent while allegations of John Edwards defiling his marriage were being vetted four years ago."

Oh really!?

I didn't see that at all, and I've always despised the asshole, quite many years before the allegations. A glad-handing twit is a glad-handing twit. The media liked the pretty boy at first, and tried to make him even prettier, politically speaking. I gagged on the sidelines. But they eventually caught up to who he was. Does this opinionator in the article claim that the media's (eventual) incessant carping on John Edwards' $400 hair cuts constitutes "many Democrats" standing "silent"?

What a freaking re-tard.

PS

Another minor but irritating little detail for both the opinionator in the article and the OP:

It is possible that Democrats "stood silent" four years ago about Edwards because he was in fact not running for any office four years ago and was in fact well out of any political picture four years ago. You know how those political types are; love'em, charge them $400 for a haircut, then leave'em.
