Firm`s state,Kentuky, reelected a Democrat governor.Thought they were red-state....hmmm.

Mississippi killed the abortion ban.

The anti-union law in Ohio.....DOA.

In Zona(Arizona)ass-hole republican state Sen. Russell Pearce, the guy who brought us the "let me see your papers" imigration law .....buh-by have fun at the next white supremist rally.

In NJ,our governor took a hit as cons lost two races, both heavely funded by the GOP,with the "popular" governor Christy, campaigning for the cons.

In Maine, they killed an attempt by the republicans end to election Day voter registration there.

The Virginia race(s) is to close to call.

It's the economy, stupid.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/10/28/1031050/-Rhees-StudentsFirst-spends-more-than-$70,000-to-defend-gay-baiting-Michigan-state-representative?detail=hide

While running for State Representative, Scott criticized his opponent for accepting donations from gay rights groups. He called those groups “far left and radical homosexual groups.”

While running for Secretary of State, the Republican was criticized for gay baiting by the Log Cabin Republicans. He emailed supporters listing his top four priorities which included: “I will make it a priority to ensure transgender individuals will not be allowed to change the sex on their driver’s license in any circumstance.”

Yes, that should help get the economy back on its feet.

During the same Secretary of State race, according to Log Cabin, "Scott touted the support of Former Bush 2004 Michigan Social Conservative Outreach Chair, Bill Voorheis, who hunts people down at conventions and other GOP functions to confront them about their supposed homosexuality.”

Actually ... I live in GA.

But Kentucky is my "heart home".  I even have a house there, and will likely be moving back in a month or two.

All that being said ... Kentucky is and will remain a "red-state" for the immediate future, regardless of the party elected.

That's because political party registration is like religion there: you get it when you are born, and keep it all the rest of your life.

Doesn't mean that you don't vote for the "conservative candidate", though, which is exactly what all the registered Democrats do there, time after time.

Locally, it's a different story, but in my home county the population is about 80-90% Democrat: but elected a Republican Judge Executive for the past three elections.  All of his council is Democrats, I think.  Nationally, they've voted overwhelmingly for Reagan, Bush, McCain, etc.

No one really cares.  Everyone knows all the people involved.

At that level, it's often more about "local politics" than "party politics".

On state issues, it varies, kind of a cross between local and national.

I have a college buddy who inherited the family business and is a big democrat in Roslindale/West Roxbury. He called to boast about the state-wide victories here in mass (all at municipal and county level THIS YEAR). And he said he was sending Scott Brown a "catalog" so he can pick out a box early.

Possibly a telling metaphor, but I still suggest that you google the muslim terroristsufi guitarist Richard Thompson or the born again Catholic tedious dullardUN envoy Tony Blair if you think religion is set for life.

You'll have to be less obtuse if you want me to "get your drift", Moon.

Two examples of people who started off as zealots for one sect then had a conversion and started embarrassing a different faith instead, old boy. Thompson started off as a Presbyterian and Blair was born Anglican. He wouldn't have been the British PM in the first place if he'd been raised catholic, would he?
Just trying to make a point about your equating religious and political leanings as unalterable ideologies that stay fixed until the point of death, dig?

Specific counter-examples do not make the general observation invalid.

They do, actually: when a generalisation breaks down if you try to apply it to specific cases, then it most likely lacks the generality that's being claimed for it. It's not like you've never trotted out a specific example to the contrary when you've complained about somebody tarring your massive with an overly large brush, is it?

Now that Arizona State Senate President Russell Pearce, creator of the "Show me your papers, you look alien" law, has lost his seat in a recall election - can I visit Pheonix, Tucson or Yuma without having to carry my U.S. passport? [:)]

After all, based on my looks, I could be mis-identified by some one-horse Arizona town's Barney Fife as an "illegal" Irish immigrant... [;)]

Actually, I am hoping the Musician's Union boycott of Arizona ends soon - I haven't performed there since the "Show me your papers, you look alien" law was enacted.
