BKSir -> Smokin' Joe Frazier (11/7/2011 8:21:07 PM)

Just announced, Frazier lost the greatest and final fight of his life, passing away from Liver Cancer. Rest in peace, Joe.

Christ.
They only just announced he was ill.

He was a great fighter.

RIP Smokey

Yeah, it was fast. When I heard that he had liver cancer, and then was in hospice that quickly, I knew it wouldn't be long at all. Very unfortunate. But he provided some awesome memories.

It's sad he was angry for so long.
I'll never forgive Ali for the shit he pulled.

:( RIP, Joe

RIP Joe.  I cried when they announced he had it and was in hospice, not so much for him, as for me.  Liver cancer took my dad quickly in 85.

Cancer sucks.

Joe was one great fighter... Enjoyed him... RIP.

slvemike4u -> RE: Smokin' Joe Frazier (11/8/2011 11:09:50 AM)

RIP Joe...one helluva a fighter.Of course the only way to achieve greatness in that game is to come along at the same time as another great.His misfortune/ fortune was to have to share the stage with Ali....

Ninebelowzero -> RE: Smokin' Joe Frazier (11/8/2011 12:23:08 PM)

Frazier, Norton Ali & Foreman, possibly the greatest athletes we have ever had competing at the same time against each other. People like these should be eternal, never get old, never die.

slvemike4u -> RE: Smokin' Joe Frazier (11/8/2011 1:17:31 PM)

Sorry nine below ,but Norton and Foreman do ot belong at that level.
Foreman ,at least was an actual champ...but remove Ali and The rumble in the jungle from his story and he is nothing more than a Liston or a Tyson.
no greatness there save what Ali ,by dint of Jim ,bestowed on him.

Ninebelowzero -> RE: Smokin' Joe Frazier (11/8/2011 1:33:05 PM)

Going to disagree there Mike. Sorry.

Yes, damned shame. One of the truly great sportsmen of the twentieth century. He should have had a longer innings than he did.

Just got it on the news tonight: he was only 5' 9". Bloody hell - I'll be careful about picking a fight with a short guy again!

NocturnalStalker -> RE: Smokin' Joe Frazier (11/8/2011 1:59:06 PM)

To honour his memory, I am proud to announce that I am pursuing an active career in the world of bare-knuckle boxing.

mnottertail -> RE: Smokin' Joe Frazier (11/8/2011 2:00:32 PM)

Do you at least know anyone from Philly and are you 5' 9" with a pushed in face?

Cuz otherwise, you will not be effective in this endeavor.

NocturnalStalker -> RE: Smokin' Joe Frazier (11/8/2011 2:07:05 PM)

I'm 6' and have a lovely face.  The risk of injury is great, you're right, but thanks to advances in modern technology I will demand that I wear a protective mask during each bout.
