FirstQuaker -> I bet they didn't see this coming (11/7/2011 7:48:47 AM)

Apparently hijacking a ship with Vietnamese Vietnam war veterans aboard is not a good plan.

Vietnam vets make pirates walk plank

quote:

Taiwan is hailing the bravery of five Vietnamese war vets who launched a surprise assault on six armed pirates and successfully took back their vessel after it had been hijacked off East Africa.

quote:

The pirates were forced to jump into the high sea and were likely picked up by a small boat operated by the same Somali pirates group, it said.

Those guys had to be getting up there in age. But I wager the last things the Somalians suspected was that they might have problems with some "Viet Cong."

They are not privy to just who their victims are. Similar to the armed hi-jacking ('car-jack') of an FBI agent. The 'jacker' is dead now.

Even if they were 12-14 when they were fighting, (more common than anyone would like to think) they're fiftyish now. Good job guys.

Hopefully, the small boat wasn't really there.

Nice.Makes one have some hope.

Anyone know which side of the war they fought on?

Doesn't matter, there's been only one side since a Republican named Nixon abandoned the NOW FORMER South Vietnamese and let them be overrun by communists. Which is why I always laugh HYSTERICALLY when the idiots here express such concern over what they hallucinate is 'socialism'
Ever been ON a Vietnamese vessel? I have... there are usually over a million cigarettes stored onboard.

SternSkipper -> RE: I bet they didn't see this coming (11/7/2011 8:21:24 AM)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm .... I want independent confirmation... That fake picture is just fucking a stupid. Why did they even do that?

Nice try at re-writing history to suit your perverse liberal agenda but I am one Vietnam Veteran who won't let you get away with it. It most definately was not a Republican named Nixon who abandoned the South Vietnamese people and let them be tortured and slaughtered by Communist North Vietnam but, rather, it was the Democratic Majority Congress (House and Senate) which did that when they repealed the 1964 "Gulf of Tonkin Resolution" (enacted by the Democratic Majority Congress at the behest of Democrat POTUS Johnson) thereby revoking POTUS Nixon's authority to continue supporting South Vietnam.

So is racerjoe admitting that it was wrong of congress to criticize Obama's support of NATO in Lybia? Because it would be a similar type of 'perversion' the republicans sought to engage in during that matter. Course they were weak and could strip Obama of his powers.

FirstQuaker -> RE: I bet they didn't see this coming (11/7/2011 5:32:47 PM)

The Vietnamese press reports the pirates all "fell overboard" while the Taiwan press says the Vietnamese were hired specifically as dual purpose antipiracy guards/crewmembers.

The China Post hilariously claims the Vietnamese veterans  did not use the Kalashnikov rifles they seized  to kill the pirates because these Vietnamese did not know how to operate the weapons.

TheHeretic -> RE: I bet they didn't see this coming (11/7/2011 8:08:42 PM)

So basically, the shipping company hired some crewmen with combat experience, who could blend right in with the rest of the crew, and their assault worked. Cool.

Maybe the Vietnamese should consider installing some "Viet Cong" on some of their own vessels.

Yea, maybe others will see this and start doing the same.
