Hi all, I'm not sure if this is being posted in the right place, or if there is any right place on this site for this type of post. I have recently noticed regular fakes being made, to the point where I can see them immediately. I'm fairly sure it's one person, usually 3 or 4 made back to back, all very similar. I have tried to reason with them, but simply receive a cut n paste bit of spam back, which doesn't reply to anything in my email to them.It bugs me that one person can come and do this, and it ruins the experience of the site for me to the point where I am thinking of shutting my account down and only using other sites. I try to report as many as I can, but there isn't even a button for fake or liar lol... can we petition for that to be a reason to ask for someone to be removed?

I'm guessing the end result of this will be, tough shit for me, and myself and you all will just have to keep dealing with it. I do know that private torrent trackers have sophisticated ways of making sure that only one account per user can be made, and they seem to have great success with those systems, perhaps the same idea they use would be good for sites like this. Particularly an invite only system. Anyway, I'm just having a rant now lol, but I do feel better for writing this :)

Yep.

There are also good, real people on this site. Since you're now quite adept at spotting the fakes don't waste your energy trying to reason with them. Find something better to do, like move on to the next profile.

Good luck in your search, and welcome.

The site is what you make of it.  I think of it as a conversation site first, but have met some people from this site.

The fakes?  Hell, they get very easy to spot.  Just a part of life online.

Do yourself a favor and block and hide people you're convinced are fakes, it will greatly enhance your user experience.

If you can spot them immediately, WHY do you try to reason with them? What is it about you that compels you to write to someone who you profess to spot as a fake?

@Missokyst I have had experience in the past with fakes 'coming out' to me, and had some good experiences sorting their heads out.. that is, the gay men making female profiles. A different matter when the fake has been set up for scam or commercial reasons I guess. But I found it very rewarding helping someone over-come a behaviour, which, for the vast majority who do it, must make them loath themselves.

@Ishtarr & DarkSteven, I have begun to make more use of the hide function, I'll have to start considering it to be more like doing the weeding. I have wracked my brains for years as to some system or website that could help people identify as 'real' or not online, but in the end I think DarkSteven is right, the older i get, the easier it is to spot the bullshit, so it shouldn't be too demanding really. It's more of a despairing at human nature lol.

no termy, he's talking about member only torrent sites, and i happen to know for a 100% certainty that the "one account/user" thing is bullshit. i have multiple accounts on several such sites.

Not all private torrent trackers are created equally.

That you're supposition is wrong. It's really quite obvious.

I forget what they're called, supercookies or something ? That's about the only way to stop people from having as many accounts as they want. I don't think a site like this should use them. First of all for discretionary reasons, but also the fact that computers are cheap, and so are harddrives.

For example with XP Pro, I can buy a one terabyte drive and put perhaps twenty partitions on it. Then I can load one partition and clone it to all the others. That gives me twenty fresh OSes to use which makes me pretty much immune to supercookies or whatever they're called.

Airpig has already shown that IP blocking can be beat. As long as the membership is free there is no way to control it.

So the staff has to kick people out all the time, a dirty job but someone has to do it. But then we always do have the fun of fucking around with newbies who start a thread about it.

You know I am a fake. That picture is fake. I am actually a supermodel and incredibly wealthy. I'm also a movie star and dictator of a small country. Could you send me a thousand bucks ?

Hey genius, I've had a lot of laughs pretending to be a gay man pretending to be female and having dorks fix my headspace.

Sure Termy, give me your account details.

@Madaxeman... you may have won the battle, but at what cost? lol I have actually become quite good friends with a couple of them, I'm a very forgiving and understanding person... we're all pretty fucked up, I might not be able to help myself live a true life, but I do help others to, and can't think of many others things that I find more fulfilling.

I have to say, I'm kind of shocked at how juvenile it all is here. There's a lot of people getting a lot of kicks from mocking and being disparaging. This experience has not helped me want to stay with collarme.

Anywho, thank you for the general feedback, and to those who messaged me :)

If you win enough battles, you win the war.
Unless your name is Pyrrhus of course.

To sink into grownupspeak for a brief moment...
The site has devolved to some extent since I first joined.
There is value to be had from it, or I wouldn't be here.
The disparaging or snarking is one of the things I enjoy most.
Go to the serious side 'Community Discussions' for lifestyle chat.
Try the Gorean threads for seriously deluded chat.
There are some sensible issues raised on the boards.
You don't have to add sensible remarks, as my posting history will attest to.
Stay and work your way around the site.
Create threads that interest you.
The issue of 'fakedom' is pretty worn down here, but arises every few weeks.
With a handle like 'Derailed' were you really expecting considered opinion?

Now send me all your money.
