I was wondering if anyone here is also into body modification?

This can be something as simple as a piercing or tattoo or it can be more extreme such as numerous/multiple tattoos, multiple piercings, tongue splitting, body suspensions, skin stretching or gauging, amputation, scarification, branding, implants (not cosmetic) and so on...

Have you ever thought of doing a body modification and how do you view those who do have body modifications done? What is "too extreme" for you?

Personally, I have eight tattoos and had nine piercings but now I only have one remaining piercing. I'm looking into more "extreme" body mods such as permanent vampire fangs (have a dentist willing to do this already) and something else I know I'll get shit for if I post...

I co-own a tattoo shop, so yeah - I have seriously modded 2 previous subs, and will attempt to mod my next one. :)

i have some friends who are really into hook suspensions. it's scary to me but fascinating to watch. =p i have thought about stretching my ears so i could wear snazzy ginormous tribal earrings from india and afghanistan. =p but... i found clipping them to my headpieces worked just as well.

i have an idea for a tattoo if i ever took the plunge and got one. i also thought about getting microdermal piercings because they're so cute. i wanted to get a single sparkly one just above my cleavage. haha

i get antsy about permanent things as far as my own body goes, BUT i like to see them on other people. i like to learn the reasons behind them.

I have 5 tats that I got when I was younger but as I get older I find that they are more a hindrance than anything else and I'll probably have at least half of them eventually removed. As for piercings, I used to have a navel piercing but I took it out because I didn't like the way it looked.

I'm sure Master has some plans in the future for me to have certain piercings but those aren't as big a deal to me since they can be removed with no problems if he decides he doesn't like it.

No, I plan to have an actual career.

Art on a wall will still look as good as it did the day you got it.  Art on your body will morph into some wrinkled-up mess in due time.

Piercings are so 1980's.

i had my ears pierced when i was a kid. however, as my hair is very long, and usually worn down, i very rarely wear anything in them. not only that but my skin is very sensitive and will even react to gold and silver, or whatever they mix them with. so i have to weigh up whether the sore ears afterwards is worth it.

i spent years liking other people's tat's but not being bothered about any for myself. then i got one on me and decided i wanted one, but didn't know what or where i wanted it. in the end i had three star bursts on my bikini line. they are black and blue like bruises. i'd like another, a seahorse, but can't make my mind up where.

there are some wonderful tattoos on people, and some that don't look so good. but if the people sporting them are happy with them, who am i to judge.

I have seven tattoos although one of them alone covers the majority of my back. I got the first one when I was 18 and the most recent was finished less than a year ago. I am sure I will get several more. I generally aesthetically enjoy the appearance of tattoos on other people and particularly on women. I don't like major facial tattoos for the most part or seeing an entire body covered with almost no original skin visible.

I have had a couple of piercings, but haven't worn them for years. I don't find them as visually interesting as tattoos on others for the most part, but the only thing I find really weird is looking at one of the enlarged ear hole piercings when the hole is left empty. I kind of want to get a clothes hanger and hang something from the hole when i see it.

In general, I don't think of any body modification as too extreme if the other person is into it, though I have to rethink that after seeing you include amputation on the list. I am now envisioning someone sawing their own leg off for no reason other than modification and yep, that seems a bit extreme.

I had a feeling tattoos and piercings would be "popular". I understand those who choose not to do any body mod and it is their choice so I respect that. As for aging and tattoos and such...my view (opinion) is that the tattoo or whatever is like a memory..you usually remember where and why you had it done. Body mod int he extreme forms are usually art to some people or its transforming their bodies to "fit" them and their personalities or expressing themselves. To me, if my tattoos get wrinkly when I age or don't look the same, at least I can say I did it and not regret it, I'll remember what it was/is and why it was done. I could care less what others think when I'm old just as I don't now..but again, no disrespect to those who think differently.

I've seen some pretty extreme things done with body modification. Personally I'd love to do a suspension at least once. I did have five loops in my mouth (two on my top lip and three on the bottom) that, when my mouth was closed, looked like my mouth was sewn shut. I have had these removed for a few years but I had them for about five years and loved them. I removed them for a job at the time and now if I did them again I'd have to go through scar tissue which is not fun. Right now I'm inquiring with professionals and surgeons to figure out if a certain type of body mod can even be done. You know, playing it safe instead of just doing it and having horrible results. So far I've had mixed reports so it'll be a while before I decide whether or not I do it but if I do, I'll post it at that time. It'd definitely be considered "extreme" to most people, especially those who aren't keen about body mod to begin with.

Keep 'em coming though, love hearing about ideas or experiences! I even don't mind those who express no desire as long as they respect others decisions and the other way around.

Ink, holes, scarification, branding, corsets, insets, suspension and I WANT elf ears. Wouldn't mind having fangs either, but a friend keeps telling me how often she bites herself hahaha Everyone says tattoos end up looking bad but even the one I got when I was 17 looks the same now. Everyone says holes are old but the only time I have ever taken mine out have been when I have been in the hospital and I just repoke them later. As far as body mod goes it is either who you really are or it isn't.

during one of the suspension sessions i saw, a girl did a really lovely suspension with hooks in the skin around her knees. it was easily one of the loveliest suspensions i've ever seen. normally i watch them and i'm grimacing or going "gah how do they do that?"
but hers was very fluid and peaceful, it was more like an aerialist performance.

I have had a vertical suspension and done 3 vertical suspensions on other people. During my suspension I had a spear pierced through my cheeks.
My husband is a scarification artist. He did a beautiful little skin removal on me. Three tribal claw marks. He has also done some snake bite branding on me which is very intricate and accurate fine lines. Both the skin removal and the snake bite branding can only be seen as very fine white markings when my skin is tanned.

I also have had my nipples pierced and have a triangle hood piercing which I love.

I have heard the argument about tatoos getting all wrinkly as we age and so forth, and my answer to that one is first of all, if you take care of your skin wrinkling may not be that bad. Secondly, to me it is a sign of the life I have lived, and the fact that at that time I was young and free enough to do it. I would love to get more piercings, I do have pierced ears that I don't wear much any more for job and other reasons, if I had my way would have a lot more in my ears and other places..well, least I can dream:)

@njlauren I totally agree. Sure, when age progresses people are bound to wrinkle...take care of your skin and you can delay the progression but still...at least I can say that I did it. Who's to say I'm going to live long enough to get old and wrinkly anyway? I could die tomorrow...For me body modification is much more than just something to do and make people ask "Why?!" It's a connection to myself, it's pushing my boundaries in mind, body, and soul. It's about expression. Sure it's not for everyone and that's fine but to me its beautiful and I know I'm not the only one and I certainly won't be the last. I can't keep thinking about the what if's or waaaay in the future. I want to look back and say "I lived!"

@mariab I'm sure that spike through the cheeks was amazing to watch ,never mind the experience. I can't wait to do my first suspension and I think it's great you have a husband who can do those things for you.

@Miss ImmortalPain I know a few people who want elf ears and met someone who had it done. They had their earlobes removed and the tops pointed, really cool and very beautiful on the lady who had them done.

I don't understand why people bother posting if they can't at least be respectful of another persons decision. It's easy enough to read, recognize that the topic of discussion is not something you like or are into, and move on. No problem with people who aren't into this sort of thing but there's no reason to put anyone down for what they like and enjoy.

Yeah that's NS's MO, ignore him and he'll go away.

As for your topic I admit to being curious about suspension but so far I lack the nerve. Part of it is my issue with needles so it'll take a very special man or woman to get me to do it.
