He could not confirm whether Olsen had been struck by a tear gas canister.

Okay, just why was tear gas used if this was a peaceful demonstration, and if it wasn't a peaceful demonstration what the hell were the organizers thinking?

I'd like to know how he received a skull fracture from a bean bag which is what the chief of police claimed they were using.

You don't expect an object launched at a high rate of speed to be able to cause injury? They don't "throw" the beanbags. They are fired from a riot gun.

"A riot gun or less-lethal launcher is a type of firearm that is used to fire "non-lethal" ammunition for the purpose of suppressing riots. Less-lethal launchers may be special purpose firearms designed for riot control use, or standard firearms, usually shotguns and grenade launchers, adapted to riot control use with appropriate ammunition. Many of them are 37 mm or 40 mm caliber (about 1.5 inches)."
