This is not the 60's and these are not simply a bunch of dirty fucking hippies. Too bad for those who worship the 1%.

Good for them!

I've been noticing that the media is making a point of indicating that the protesters are employed. In this case 50%, but I normally see more.

Kat Broadus of Albany, right, and Thomas Lang of Watervliet hold signs along Washington Avenue during the Occupy Albany protest in Academy Park across from the Capitol on Sunday Oct. 23, 2011 in Albany, NY. Broadus works 7 days a week, and made time to join the protest before returning to work. Lang has been unable to find work

On Real Time‘s New Rules tonight, Bill Maher said that “Republicans have to stop calling the Occupy Wall Street protesters ‘hippies’.” “Yes, they’re peeing outdoors and having sex in sleeping bags– or as Bristol Palin calls it, dating,” Maher explained. “[But] these people down there– they’re not the counter-culture, they’re the culture. They don’t want free love, they want paid employment. They don’t hate capitalism, they hate what’s been done to it.”

Maher mentioned he had visited Occupy DC’s protest and contrary to press reports, he was not offered a “marijuana cigarette”– and was “a little insulted.” He had a revelation that conservatives were living in the past in their negative perception of the demonstration.

“There’s not going to be a repeat of the last time the hippies were in the streets,” Maher argued. “Those hard hats that you’re depending on — here’s what they’re doing now. They’re cheering them on; because now the hard hats are just as broke as everybody else.”

It's a new thing they're trying out to see if they can get away with it and not piss off their  hedgefund sponsors. They're calling it the truth... feels weird doesn't it?
[:D]

This is my favorite video commentary so far about the movement.

I insist on giving the credit for that to Bill Maher.
