Don't you have to be on SSI or some sort of disability or something? And can they refuse you coverage for previously existing conditions? And no I am not asking about myself cause yes I am already on medical and medicare. and I have a and b.

Well if you are already on it, then how did you get there? You must know something about getting it. I have no idea what you mean by "medical," but medicare and medicaid are different. MediCARE is for the aged and disabled, and is part of Social Security and Social Security Disability. You can't have Medicare without one of those. You need to apply. The web site is www.SSA.gov. You should be able to navigate on your own from that point. MediCAID is medical benefits for the poor and needy. This comes in various forms. Most states have some kind of "Family Care" which is a form of Medicaid that is only available for people with children. This coverage is actually better than Medicare. It covers doctors, prescriptions and hospitals, usually at no cost, whereas Medicare does have a deduction from your Social Security payment, and does not cover all medications. The MediCAID for single people is more difficult to get. If you are receiving social service benefits (welfare), you should also receive some form of medicaid. If it is merely because you can't afford your own insurance, well, sadly, you are screwed. There is a THIRD type of MediCAID which is available to those who are receiving welfare but have chronic health problems. These are people who are not receiving Disability, but still have health problems that require more coverage. The only way to find out if you are eligible for those services is to go to your local Social Services Office. One final option is to apply at your local hospital for Charity Care. They will look at income and determine if you are eligible. You may be eligible for partial coverage or full coverage. Most local hospitals now also have in-house clinics a person can go to for basic care rather than the emergency room. Oh yea, and SSI and SSD are not the same thing. SSI is Supplemental Security Income and is for people who did not earn enough to receive Social Security Disability or plain Social Security.

Medicaid is administered by the states so the rules differ across state lines. I think every state handles applications through the same offices that handle food stamps and other forms of welfare. Medicare is strictly for people over 65 or classed as disabled by the SSA. You can apply at any Social Security office. You'll need specific documentation based on the person's condition (check the SSA website for details). Neither can refuse to cover a pre-existing condition.

I was signed up automatically when I was classified as disabled, as far as I know. Medical is another coverage that has the state seal of California on it. or something like that. Medicaid is for pregnant women, elderly, blind or disabled people. Typically short term disability falls under Medicaid. SSI is for disability expected to be temporary but lasting a year or more. SSD is for disability that is permanent. Medicaid you file for through your local welfare office.. some states now have the applications on line. But you may still have to go in for an interview. SSI/SSD can be filed for through the internet at the social security web site.

Thank you, I didn't know much about the program, just its name. Just go to your local welfare office and say; "Me illegal alien, no speaka de eengleesh so good." They'll be throwing govt. checks at you, free housing, foodstamps, medical, dental.

SSI is Supplemental Security Disability for people who did not make enough to qualify for SSD. MediCARE is available ONLY to the elderly and disabled (being blind is a disability). MediCAID is available to the poor and is applied for through the local Social Services (Welfare) office. If you receive SSD, you will automatically qualify for MediCARE. People do NOT automatically qualify for MediCAID. While applications are sometimes available locally on line, an in person interview, along with presenting requested documentations is ALWAYS required.
