How do you post an image using an iPad? It doesn't seem to work like it is supposed to.

You mean to the forums here from Safari?

Short answer, you don't. Longer answer can be found here: iOS Developer Library: Creating Compatible Web Content.

Safari on iOS does not support file uploading, that is, <input type="file"> elements. If your webpage includes an input-file control, Safari on iOS disables it.

I don't believe Opera Mini on iOS supports uploads either. I think iCab Mobile may have some support for file uploads, but I've never tested it and the site's FAQ claims it's not working with iOS 5 at the moment, although an update to address that is planned. Since iOS doesn't have a user-exposed file system and, furthermore, sandboxes apps' access to the rest of the system, there isn't a great way for a browser to implement support for file uploads through standard HTML input forms.

One thing that I neglected to mention in my first post was that, while you can't directly upload an image here from Safari, you can still use [image] tags to include images that are already hosted somewhere online in your posts. All you need is the image's URL. Note, however, that it's generally not considered good practice to hotlink images you don't host without permission as it takes up the other site's resources. If you do have an image you want to use that's just on your iPad, you could first upload it (using the appropriate iOS app) to some image sharing site, like Flickr, and then take the resulting static URL and use an image tag to include the image in your post.

Ex:

[image]http://www.collarchat.com/image/LogoLG.gif[/image]

produces:

[img]http://www.collarchat.com/image/LogoLG.gif[/img]

Yes, opera didn't allow me to do it either. Can I ask you another question? If I post to flicker or evernote, will my identity still be protected?

shallowdeep -> RE: iPad question (10/19/2011 1:06:03 PM)

I think Flickr, for instance, may use some hash to create static URLs, so the link itself might not reveal much, but I'd still work under the assumption that your user name with a service can be discovered if you link to a picture hosted by it. I'd therefore strongly suggest setting up a separate account that isn't linked to your identity at all rather than reusing an existing account that might reveal something about your identity if that is a concern.

Thank you again
