I agree, a great guy and a great video.

I loved how the camera panned to show the looks on the policemen's faces. Many of them looked embarrassed to be there and be part of it.

I wonder how quick the NYPD would be to mace a platoon of Marines or SEALs, instead of 100 lb. females standing peacefully.

I just watched the video. I did not see the police do anything to invite the ire of the Marine. This is indeed the United States of America...people have a right to peacefully assemble and/or protest. The Unites States of America is also a nation of laws not men (people)...and the police have a duty to stop people who are breaking the law(s), and arrest and remove them if need be.

Unless the Marine was discharged before doing what he did he is indeed subject to Courts Martial under the UCMJ.

Uh, he wasnt in uniform. And he was peacefully assembling and protesting, so unless you got something else, you are wrong on all counts and haven't a valid point as usual.

Now, I suppose the powers that be could get him for being out of uniform, if hes active, a relatively minor offense, like a traffic ticket.

He can be the OWS`s version of "joe the plumber".

Only he won`t be a complete phony like Sam Wurzelbacher.

Or have to make up a phony history or pretend to be a hero(wilber) to have street cred.

We`ll get him a camera crew and a van to visit the campaign trail and we`ll have him mug the GOP candidates at their stops.Only unlike Sam Wurzelbacher, the muggings we be successful.lol

That guy`s big....and loud......and proud.

Then it`s off to Facebook and Youtube city!

He was wearing a military jacket/shirt with military service ribbons on it and made it quite clear that he was a Marine. You yourself said he was protesting, therefore you obviously don't know what you're talking about as usual.

Depends on which fucking laws you want to pick. Last time I checked throwing an unprovoked punch at someone whether you are wearing a fucking NYPD uniform or not is against the LAW!

Yeah, I am a veteran, the man was not in uniform, those who never have served this country would be clueless as usual.

Ask any veteran, hell even faceshooter cheney might know. He's a veteren of sorts. He was in that grouse-lawyer action down south wasn't he?

And while we are on the subject, a military jacket/shirt is called a blouse. It saves keystrokes.

I thought so too. He was a full head taller than most of them.

Before the video was turned on (most people don't anticipate history the way the 'serious concerns' in this message imply), there was a 20 something woman who didn't move quick enough for a particular cop (you can kind of tell that at first he's yelling to a distant individual, to wit the over the top policeman). Sgt Thomas placed himself in between a the cop and the woman and said something to the effect of "you wanna hit somebody?", Stared the cop down (who'd had a change of heart apparently now facing a man nearly half again his size).
Your nation of laws shit wreaks of tuna pal. In a Nation of laws police aren't allowed to accept a bribe of more than 4 1/2  million from ceo of  JP Morgan Chace to get the punks off the street. In a nation of laws the police are only allowed to use necessary force to do the 'duty' you described. When they exceed it as in this case, they're just little fucks with a badge as my brother who did his 30 in law enforcement says.
And you can say all you want about the municipal duties of a bunch of cops. But I can tell you from my conversations with BPD that the rank and file not only has a certain amount of empathy for the protesters, they also genuinely hate being at the mayor's mercy on this one. And a couple I've talked to have told me "If it didn't mean my pension I'd be here on my days off supporting you guys".

Toward the end of the video he talks about something that happened on Oct 5, his and his family member's military service, and adds:

"These cops are hurting people that I fought to protect. There’s no reason for this. There’s no honor in hurting unarmed civilians, and I won’t let it happen."

http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/heather/sgt-shamar-thomas-discusses-his-experience

Countdown's Keith Olbermann talked to former Marine Sgt. Shamar Thomas about his experience confronting the police in Times Square during the #OWS protests where he defended the occupiers right to assemble and march peacefully.

Thomas explained he became inspired to get more involved in the protests after seeing some of the police brutality during the first week in October.
