In an effort to send a message to big banks, some organizers, who are supported by the protestors of the Occupy Wall Street movement, have organized an event to remove all funds from banks and into credit unions.

Organizers are calling the event "Bank Transfer Day" and are encouraging people nationwide to participate November 5.

The Facebook page for the event states the following:

"Together we can ensure that these banking institutions will ALWAYS remember the 5th of November!! If the 99% removes our funds from the major banking institutions on or by this date, we will send a clear message and give the 1% a taste of the fear that we experience every day when we aren't able to pay for our rent, food, medication, utilities, student loans, etc."

So far over 6,500 people have RSVP'ed for the event.

I wonder just how many of these protesters actually have money in a bank that they could move ?

Is it your position that those who are not rich should not have a voice in our society?

Not a bad idea actually. Now, not all banks are troublesome, especially the smaller local ones. But the biggies, BoA, CITI, MS, WF etc are prime targets. For every dollar withdrawn effects the multiplier.

Consider Bank of America adding a $5.00 free to their customers ATM I would say not a bad idea.

What are they going to do with the funds theu take out of these banks ? If banks are out of business how would that help these people ? Where will these goofs go when they grow up and need a loan ?

Did you miss the part about putting the money into credit unions? Pretty sure every loan I've ever had has been through a credit union.

Somewhere they loan money, which leaves the banks completely out of it.

I use a local bank, but supporting your savings and loan is a good idea.

Credit unions perhaps they loan money too and there is where you would transfer funds to.   I belong to a credit union I have for years.
