My Fender Stratocaster Plus.
It is beautiful.
You could give me the rarest, most expensive and highly sought after guitar in the world and I doubt I will live long enough to be able to play it better than my 'Strat.
Getting this familiar with a quality instrument can take half a lifetime.

The best steak I ever had in my life was in a hotel in Lucerne, Switzerland.  We'd gone there on a tour, can't remember the name of the place, but this steak was so tender you could cut it with a fork and it practically melted in your mouth.  I drool even now thinking about it!

Interestingly, when I think back of really great meals I had, they were followed by really great sex. I wonder how much spice the sexual anticipation added?

The best fish I ever had was in Costa Rica, yellow tail tuna caught, brought up to the kitchen, cooked and eaten. Yum yum yum!

Chocolate covered Macadamia nuts, served in a waffle cone. Berlin Germany. The bakery there was the best and the chocolate heavenly.

Best candy bar i ever had was one of those Moose Munch Bars, with the cashews and the caramel corn.

pam

soul2share -> RE: Best You Ever Had... (10/8/2011 5:41:30 PM)

They are good, pam, but the best chocolate bars I've had are the Ritter brand from Germany.  They have several varieties, and OMG.......better than sex, I tell ya!  You can find them at the World Market places.

I actually liked German chocolate better than Swiss chocolate.  But in all honesty, I've never met a piece of chocolate that I never didn't like.....unless you count the time when I was a kid, my mom was making brownies from scratch, I saw the pot with the melted choclate in it and scraped off a huge fingerful....popped it in my mouth and about gagged to death!!!  That was my first experience with unsweetened baking chocolate.......[:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(][:'(]

We had a red snapper like that at a little shack of a restaurant south of Tulum (south of Cancun) right on the beach. They rowed out and caught the fish, brought it back in, fileted it, and cooked it a la Plancha w/ salt, pepper, a sprinkle of allspice, and a splash of lime. We were the only English-speaking guests; the the other 8 or so were all German kids. Damned good fish. First time I ever had Ceviche de Caracol (conch) was on that trip.

I OD'd on Terrazu coffee in Costa Rica. I couldn't shut up. Drove my companions nuts. The only thing that quieted me was getting facefuls of water white-water rafting on the Serapiqui. Best ever rafting trip.

Organizing my file cabinet today - I ran across menus from both Frontera and Topolobampo. He's pretty good. So am I, although I don't do it anymore, except for friends. We evidently met a couple of the same chefs in Mexico. Looking at the Topolobampo menu, I'd say his style was more Southwestern-influenced Central and Southern Mexican, whereas mine was more of a "Purist" approach (a la Diana Kennedy, Patricia Quintana, Zarela Martinez, Susanna Trilling etc.) which, in retrospect, was a mistake at the time and in Atlanta. One runs the risk of getting dinged when one takes the point. Kind of like the difference between a critically-acclaimed book that nobody reads, and, say, Jacquiline Susanne garbage.

I feel a rant coming on, but I'm going to exercise a little self-control.

If you ever have the chance to have a hand-made, properly made Mole Poblano ("Mole from Puebla") don't pass it up. Some so-called "Mexican" restaurants have it on the mnenu, but, trust me, it comes from a jar and is thinned with chicken stock. Like the difference between wet-aged Prime Rib from Longhorn, and dry-aged from Morton's.

The best high-end food court/Victuals store I've ever seen is the 5th floor at KaDeWe on Tauntzienstraße (becomes Ku-Damm) (U-Bahn: Wittenbergplatz; this station is a really outstanding example of the 1910s-20s Art Deco-type style). Unbelievable. The entire 5th floor of a building which takes up a solid block is devoted to the absolute best. I found a 40 year-old Balsamico there... stuff is almost as thick as honey and so complex... best I ever had. The Wurst (sausage) section is mindboggling... I'd guess it's about 1200 sq. ft., with hundreds of different types of sausages from all over (not just Germany). Really has to be experienced. Sort of like LSD; ya really can't describe it.

I'd have to say where we stayed my first time in Berlin, the Hotel Jahrvierseitzen, is, along with London's Savoy, the best Luxury hotel I've ever experienced.

The best food i have every had was in Asia. Phucket, Thailand for the amazing seafood. Burma for the vegetables and diamond mangos. It was ambrosia.

I know we don't get along politically, but I do value your opinion when it comes to cuisine. El Sol de Tala is the best mole I've found here in Indianapolis, I'll have to ask them how they make it... Thanks.

I'm always happy to share what I have learned over the years. If the sharing of my knowledge results in somebody becoming a little bit happier and more satisfied with their lives, I'm satisfied. And while it would be completely inappropriate to introduce political argumentation to this thread, I will note that Farglebargle, Sanity, Owner59, RacerJim, Cucky, and a couple others, regardless of their political identification, all cannot seem to grasp a very simple point: in order for there to be constructive dialogue, common ground has to be shared, and the feather needs to be passed.

BTW, you might want to ask DomKen about his experience(s) with Bayless' latest venture, Xni-pek (means "hotter than a dog's nose", it's a famous Salsa).

Best Anything:  The love of family and friends which carried me through my melt down, several years ago.

Best Relationship:  I'm in it, definitely.  My life now is the best it's ever been.

Best food:  Bobby Flay's former restaurant in Manhattan, called Bolo.  From appetizers, to salad, to dinner, to dessert, to wine, to the guys at the table next to us, to the service - - it was the most fantastic dinner of my life.

Best Experience:  Renting a Mustang Convertible and driving from Maine to Georgia and everywhere in between.  A month-long trip which changed my life.

2nd Best Experience:  Leaving for New York for my 40th birthday. I had just left my husband and was going to visit my sister in Brooklyn so we could get reacquainted after a three year rift between us (same trip as the Bobby Flay restaurant). She worked most of the time so I spent most of my trip alone, exploring New York, and getting to know myself.  My birthday fell on Thanksgiving Day that year so I took myself to the Macy's Parade, then met up with my sister for dinner at the top of the Marquis and then off to see Chicago on Broadway.

Best Concert:  CSNY2K Tour.  By far.

Simply the best thing that ever happened to my life - my son. [:D]
