Been watching Tony Bourdain's "No Reservaations" series... read "Kitchen Confidential" ages ago; IMO a very cool guy... on one his shows with some folks dining with him round-table talk kind of thing, the question came up.

I have no idea what I would want for my last meal. There are so many things that I really like. Probably ice cream and chocolate would be in the mix.

So what would y'all like to have before the Big Sleep?

Some kind of surf and turf.  Steak (rare) with shrimp or shell fish.  Served with asparagus or broccoli.  Some kind of chocolate dessert.  Maybe warm hot fudge over ice cream or cake.  Just something to taste, not necessarily eat.

FWIW....in Texas they are going to do away with the "Last Meal" because some condemned schmuck ordered up a really grand meal and didn't even take a bite. This came up in the last week or two.

i heard about that on the radio maybe a week or so ago. i dunno what to think about that. i think it's kind of inhumane but then again... i dunno. =p

anyway, i'd probably agree with Iamsemisweet -- lots and lots of booze.

Seems a bit harsh to do away with all last meal
requests because of one guy. What about the guy
who just wants a cheesebuger? They could put a
cap on what can be spent and how much or what is
requested.
I don't know what I'd choose. But I'd want wine with
it and would probably forgo low carb.

Fuck booze. If I'm gonna croak the next day, I want some smack. Never tried it. And some MDMA. Some good wine, perhaps. But for the flavor, not the buzz. The industrial solvent EtOH is EtOH, regardless of the delivery medium. Alcohol is really a crude drug. Not much different from ether.

One of the panel members on the show said they wanted some good Southern cornbread with a big pat of butter on top. I can dig that. One said KFC, with the slaw and mashed potatoes, and the nuclear orange mac n cheese. These are all heavy foodies, mind you, including Alton Brown.

I'm thinkin' about starting a thread "The Best You Ever Had..." I remember the Black Forest Black Cherry Chocolate Cake I had in Vienna back around 87 or so. It was just so good... my face and fingers were smeared with pure Heaven...

I'd like a big chunk of Artesanal Spring Parmigiano-Reggiano, where the cows are dining on the young flowers and grasees on their way up the mountains/hills to the summer meadow. Exquisite. My favorite cheese, bar none. Second is Rolf Mueller's Gruyere from Switzerland.

I'm thinking perfectly ripe Brandywine tomatoes with fresh Italian Basil, some shaved Parmesan, and some Villa Monadori Artesanal Balsamico.

I'm starting to encroach on the thread I want to start... better hold off.

It's not even about the cost. The chef who prepares the last meals has offered to pay for them and the officials have still said "no way".

So what would y'all like to have before the Big Sleep?

Can I choose to have Anthony hubba hubba Bourdain as my last meal?
If not, then my second choice would be anything he chooses to hand feed me.
I would even eat (gag) seafood for him...thats how much the inner foodie in me lusts after him.

On a much more serious note, there is this blackened steak po'boy that
is prepared by this little rinky dink place of a restaurant here in town.
Hold the onions please!

That's very depressing especially considering
how many people on death row in Texas
are probably innocent and/or had a insufficient
defense or have a IQ thirty points below
average.

That KFC dinner complete with the orange
mac and cheese has been in my head all
morning. I haven't had that stuff in a
longtime but I think I might have it for
dinner. So thanks.
I probably would go southern for a last
meal. Memphis BBQ maybe or better yet
my mothers fried chicken and buttermilk
biscuits. You couldn't die completely unhappy
after eating one of my mothers biscuits.
