To me, success is relative to the individual, but in general I would describe success as this: Following your passions, being happy and content, and leading a healthy and stable life.

Yes, I realize these are entirely subjective, but that happens to be the whole point.

If it doesn't involve cheesecake it doesn't matter.

Missokyst -> RE: How Do You Define Success? (10/2/2011 10:32:51 PM)

Being content in who you are, whether that is living large, or living to get by.
I have had BUCKS, and lived frugally. Both were fine in their situation. This said, I don't think I could be content being jobless, homeless, and living on the whim of bad luck.
For me at least, there has to be some degree of "acquired stuff".

There is a thread happening right now in Ask a Submissive/Slave and it made me think, but I don't want to de-rail it, so.....

How do you define success? Money? Healthy relationships/boundaries? Material possessions? Having his/her shit together? Something else? I'll be interested in any/all input.

I stand corrected.

Shitloads of money....and cheesecake.

Cheesecake is indeed vital.

Success, for me, is achieving whatever it was that I set out to do.

Learning a tricky piece of music on my banjo.... summoning the confidence to go to a gig on my own....sorting out a financial crisis....tackling any task that I've been putting off....having a difficult conversation that I've been avoiding or was afraid of initiating, fixing something on my cycle that I've never attempted before.... managing to cook a soft-boiled egg.....and so on and so forth.

When I succeed in the small trials and struggles that litter my life I'm supremely happy and any big successes such as watching my children be kind, thoughtful, loving and responsible were built in exactly the same way.

This defines it best for me.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: How Do You Define Success? (10/3/2011 8:32:01 AM)

I felt pretty successful when I watched my son graduate from college. I will feel even more successful when he finds a job.

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: How Do You Define Success? (10/3/2011 8:38:55 AM)

Being happy with who you are.

Living your life on your on terms as much as possible.
Learning, growing, experiencing, letting go, making peace.
Being ok with who you are.

Yeah, me too, although these days "inner peace" depends more on my bowels - with or without cheesecake.

LPslittleclip -> RE: How Do You Define Success? (10/6/2011 9:05:43 PM)

being happy and enjoing what you do and who you are doing it with.

Hisprettybaby -> RE: How Do You Define Success? (10/6/2011 9:49:03 PM)

I really appreciate all the answers. It makes me feel good to know that most people don't necessarily equate $$ with success. There is so much more to life than money. Hey, I mean money is nice, but it's most certainly not all there is to life.

quasarr -> RE: How Do You Define Success? (10/7/2011 5:30:26 AM)

I define success as being truely happy. It doesn't necessarily have to do with having infinite amounts of money, but as long as someone can keep their family fed and a roof over their head comfortably, and as long as they're happy in what they're doing I find those people to be sucessful. Someone could be more happy as a part time MaDonald's employee than a VP of a big company making six figures a year. It all depends on what gets you going.
