Oh God forbid, we may have to let the kids out of school to bring in the crops like they used to. I'm sure the kids would really hate that. Are you telling me that kids wouldn't pick 50 to 75 watermelons for a few hours and make 50 to $75?

$1 each just for cutting a watermelon off the vine and putting it in the back of a truck? Hello Mexican watermelons..
"From those statistics, one can calculate that the average cost per imported Mexican watermelon was $0.52.

If this wasn't going to have a deep financial impact on real people in the near, and long, term I'd laugh my ass off about these "unintended consequences".  Americans don't want jobs picking strawberries because it requires too much back-breaking work--it isn't worth it for the money paid.  And real wages can't be offered unless farmers are willing to charge exorbitant prices for their produce, which they aren't willing to do because the produce would rot on the grocery store shelves.

If people dont want it at the price it costs to produce it, then dont produce it. Simple.

Exactly so if Americans dont want to work for crappy wages let the whole industry fall apart. Instead we should outsource our food supply hell outsource everything since Americas dont want to work for slave wages. That way we keep the illegal immigrants out by bringing the jobs to them. Besides poor countries have less regulations which is great because they dont have to worry about the government or people suing them for an e.coli outbreak or similar.

So what if Americans are out of work and have no money, America can always print more money.

Well, imo, more and more food will be imported. If it was even possible to stop all imported food, are you willing to have your food bill triple in cost???.. Cuz imo, thats what would happen..

My "Blueberry Index" (TM) shows that imported blueberries are $1/small size (on sale) $2 regular price, the same size locally grown is $3.50.. so locally grown is about 2 to 3.5 times more..
and that is with cheap migrant workers, not the higher cost of labor if they were not here (assuming workers could even be found).
