OH, THEY CARE ABOUT JOBS ALRIGHT... They care to the extent that they'll do anything to PREVENT JOBS from being created between now and November 2012. If they weren't worried about the bill they'd vote it in and let him hang himself.
If I were the president, I would go for broke and just start using the executive order to get things done What the fuck are they gonna do? Impeach him? have a look at the Clinton Calendar before ya say yes.

Will these be 'shovel ready' jobs like the last time when we wasted 823 billion in a jobs stimulus ? It didn't work then and it won't work this time.

$200,000 to create a job, and unknown cost to sustain it. Exactly what we need. Obama nailed this one.

So your point is that just giving people money for not working is cheaper and more efficient?

No, newb. My point is the same as always. The government cannot create net jobs.

Exactly government doesnt create jobs. So when Rick Perry says he created thousands of jobs in Texas he actually hired the people himself.

You don't want the government to create them and you oppose tariffs on imports so that companies create manufacturing jobs and build and buy American....

What other options you got?

The only option that works. Get the government the fuck out of the way.

willbeur needs to look at the regulations, tax brackets and job situation of the 1950s.  Why were the 1950s so economically good?  Because the 90% tax the obscenely wealthy paid was avoided by those very same obscenely wealthy 1.  investing in stocks over the long term and 2. business owners quickly expanded their businesses, hiring more and more people and thereby creating more and more demand for products/services.  Few people actually paid the 90% tax, because they were re-investing it.  Today we have the lowest tax rates in nearly a century and we have a financial situation very similar to the one that caused the Great Depression.  I guess willbeur is in favor of depressions.

Ahhhh ... the good ole days. When you had to BE REAL FUCKING CAREFUL What you said to a republican.
You know, it's funny... just like then ... the new republicans have been using cool names like "communist" and "socialist" too. I wonder when the word "subversive" will make a comeback.... Good old Joe McCarthy ... A man that brought the American people to a standard that reflected his own decency and clean leving

Tragically ...
"McCarthy died in Bethesda Naval Hospital on May 2, 1957, at the age of 48. The official cause of death was acute hepatitis; it is widely accepted that this was exacerbated by alcoholism"
Course his right hand man, went on to do great things in the following decade.

President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs plan would help avoid a return to recession by maintaining growth and pushing down the unemployment rate next year, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg News.

The legislation, submitted to Congress this month, would increase gross domestic product by 0.6 percent next year and add or keep 275,000 workers on payrolls, the median estimates in the survey of 34 economists showed. The program would also lower the jobless rate by 0.2 percentage point in 2012, economists said.

Economists in the survey are less optimistic than Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, who has cited estimates for a 1.5 percent boost to gross domestic product. Even so, the program may bolster Obama’s re-election prospects by lowering a jobless rate that has stayed near 9 percent or more since April 2009.

Exactly. It is a 'get me elected plan' and not much else. I'll hand it to the dems. They created out of the mess we're all in, the best re-election fodder they could muster. They created a plan that like stimulus 1, might keep the economy stumbling along until the next stimulus is needed, and at the same time, created a plan they can point to as their attempt to save the economy that the evil Republicans shot down.

It is a stop gap measure at best that doesn't address the core issues. It's presence was predicted the instant stimulus 1 headed for Congress, even at the same time many economists were telling the world and the president that stimulus 1 would not resolve the issues of unemployment, kick starting business, or the national debt.

It is election cycle gimmickry.

I've heard it all before. The stimulus saved jobs, bla bla bla. Even Obama admitted that there were no 'shovel ready" jobs. We are still at 9 % + unemployment after wasting nearly a trillion dollars. Now he wants to build roads and bridges.?

You'd prefer 30% unemployment?

No, we'd prefer the 5-6% unemployment we'd be at if the business cycle had been allowed to run its natural course.

Did you notice that the "business cycle" was broken by the collapse of the finance market post CDO meltdown?

Remember Bank of America SPECIFICALLY responded with their "Fortress Balance Sheet" philosophy, and stopped loaning money to build reserves. Well, they got 22 months of operating capital handy now, and they're STILL laying off people...

If you wanted the "business cycle" to function, why did you stop the expiring revenue cuts?

What is your best idea then? maybe cut taxes? cut regulations? let the free market balance itself?
cos yanno , thats worked like crap for the past ten years. If only all economist could agree on what will actually work, withut hurting any more people. Fuck the governmnet, fuck the parties, its the people that need jobs that are important. But no... its not that it this might actually make a difference (even slightly) just as long as you can keep calling it what was it?
oh ya
Election gimmickry...
LMAO it has to work first doesnt it?? but you dont even want it to get a chance? why?
The people who are suffering most need help, not trickle down promises while being reamed in the ass.
If there was a slight recovery you would dress it up as something negative.
