Fightdirecto -> Rick Santorum's "Army of Celibates" (9/23/2011 1:47:43 PM)

From the transcript of the last GOP Presidential candidates debate:

FOX-News Debate Transcript

quote:

KELLY: Senator Santorum, this question stirred up a whole lot of controversy online, and it comes from Stephen Hill, who is a soldier serving in Iraq.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
QUESTION: In 2010, when I was deployed to Iraq, I had to lie about who I was, because I'm a gay soldier, and I didn't want to lose my job. My question is, under one of your presidencies, do you intend to circumvent the progress that's been made for gay and lesbian soldiers in the military?
(END VIDEO CLIP)
(BOOING)
SANTORUM: Yeah, I -- I WOULD SAY, ANY TYPE OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY HAS ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE IN THE MILITARY. And the fact that they're making a point to include it as a provision within the military that we are going to recognize a group of people and give them a special privilege to -- to -- and removing "don't ask/don't tell" I think tries to inject social policy into the military. And THE MILITARY'S JOB IS TO DO ONE THING, AND THAT IS TO DEFEND OUR COUNTRY.

ANY TYPE OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY, Candidate Santorum?

ANY would include, in addition to same-gender sexual activity, opposite-gender sexual activity as well, as in a male member of the military having sexual relations with his female wife or a female member of the military having sexual relations with their male husband.

Although, mandatory celibacy for all members of the military would sure make them more willing to kill someone - anyone - out of frustration. [;)]

If that's really true, then where does this Anal Froth the Senator seems so famous for come from?

I am sometimes very embarrassed to admit I live the same state as Ricky.

LadyPact -> RE: Rick Santorum's "Army of Celibates" (9/24/2011 7:54:46 PM)

OK, Santorum is a twit and didn't phrase the response properly.  How it should have been put is that there isn't supposed to be any sexual activity by members of our military serving in war zones.  That type of fraternization isn't supposed to be happening and it really doesn't have anything to do with different genders or same genders under the UCMJ.

While we're on the thought of sexual activity and conservatives, I have a question... How do gay people threaten the American family?

He`s right actually.

No one is supposed to be having sex while on duty, gay straight or otherwise.

That won`t change nor should it.Besides,it makes the sex you do get away with ten times better.

Anyway, that`s not what ricky was getting at.

He wants to ban gays from serving, period.

That part, I'm actually going to give you.  I'm even going to go so far as to say that I don't think that part should change.  On duty should mean on duty in all respects.

He'd be kind of screwed on that one.  Folks who aren't straight have always served.  It's only been a matter of whether or not they were open about it.

Before all these so called experts on human morality are heard, perhaps they themselves should spend some time actually doing the job that soldiers do, and am not talking about a past of being in the military in relative peace time, as was prior to 9/11, but the present conflicts and all they entail right on the front line.

I do not begrudge anyone in that situation doing what they do to find comfort in those situations where even the breath they take in can be their last, they live that precarious a life.

As to homosexuality, I believe it is in everyone, but it takes a very precarious life for feelings towards one's own gender to materialise, and even then though the thought may be there, is may not be acted upon. Killing one's own kind in the most gruesome of ways tends to modify thought away from the sanitised bullshit spouted by those safely supping cocktails at parties thousands of miles away and not experiencing the reality of life as it is for a soldier on the front line, or even in the battle zone.

Those that fight for us should be honoured, not ridiculed and fault sought in them.

I'm willing to concede the point that he may have meant “I would say, any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military serving in a war zone” – but if he did - why didn’t he just say so? Why are we constantly asked to vote for politicians who don’t have a command of the English language? If you are speaking in an American public forum, you should form your sentence in clear, concise English so that the listeners and those reading a later written transcript don’t have to scratch their heads later and say, “What do you think he/she meant by that?”

After all, one could also interpret his response “I would say, any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military” to mean “people in the military should not be allowed to masturbate” – for isn’t masturbation a form of sexual activity?

Why elect a person President if they cannot clearly articulate their meanings/positions in spoken English?

Actually, to be technical about it - gays are produced by heterosexual sex.  If we banned that, we'd have no more homosexuality.
