Wow, that was wonderful to see!  Previous training had me cringing to see how he was dragged after a high impact collision, but still, better a potential spinal injury than death by roasting.  Amazing.

Life first, spine second.  They did the right thing.

I wonder if the BMW belonged to the douche in the suit who just stood there watching.

Nice job folks

Moments like this keep my faith in humanity alive (it's still badly damaged, but at least it's alive).

As for the "putz in the suit," I get the impression that he is in a state of shock and so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and prsume that he is the driver and that, like many people, went into shock because of the accident (it is also possible he may have banged his head and is dazed).

ETA: it is also possible that the cop told him to stay there. It looks like the cop says something to him at one point

~fr~

My gut says the putz is the owner of the car.  Can't believe he didn't help tho.......shock or not....the adrenaline should have overidden it.  I've seen some serious shit happen right in front of me, including being on the wrong end of a shotgun, and didn't go blank.....I reacted first, then freaked out later.  Maybe it's just me......but I woulda been right there with the group shoving the car......Bless them all for being at the right place at the right time.

The motorcycle guy's guardian angel put in some OT that day!  At least he's going to be okay.....a long recovery, no doubt, but it beats being BBQ'd.

MasterG2kTR -> RE: If you think there are no Good Sameratans ... (9/13/2011 5:43:58 PM)

I'm with Marc & Soul thinking the putz in the suit was the owner of the Beamer

On a brighter note....I saw this on CNN this morning....they reported the motorcycle driver to be in stable and non-life-threatening condition

Cut him some slack.  He was probably trying to calculate the penalty fees he was going to have to pay at the end of his lease agreement.  That's serious business!

That is pretty nice to see especially reading about a lot of other public events that more or less has a diffusion-of-responsibility in effect.

soul2share -> RE: If you think there are no Good Sameratans ... (9/14/2011 12:55:55 AM)

Well, another story on YH said that witnesses said the guy in the suit was concerned about the kid, and that said kid will be okay.  Considering he wasn't wearing a helmet, he's pretty lucky.  To make it in between the front tires without getting run over......yeah, his guardian angel has some gray hairs today.

No real details on the crash, other than the kid was in the street, driver #2 was coming out of a parking lot, and the kid laid the bike down thinking he'd be safer than a head on crash.  His gamble paid off, but I hope he starts wearing a helmet after this.

All in all, there is some shred of hope for us yet.......

soul2share -> RE: If you think there are no Good Sameratans ... (9/14/2011 12:57:24 AM)

nah, stef...his insurance will cover all that!  And if he can afford the beemer, he can afford the penalty fees!  *snort*

People are different and react differently to similar situations due to any number of mental, emotional, or physiological conditions. Not knowing the guy or the full circumstances of the situation, I just don't wan't to get to down on him. I'd like to think that I'd have reacted heroically in that situation (and if I may cast aside humility, I have had my moments in the past [sm=champ.gif]) but the truth is that each situation is as unique as each person and none of us can truly know how we'd react.

That's good to know. Here's hoping he makes a full recovery.

Adrenaline kicks in and good samaritans are able to perform out-of-there feats.  The guy is lucky to be alive and should also be thankful that people ran to help.  Too often these days, people stand by and do nothing.

I ran out of gas on a major highway last week.  I put up the hood and the four way flashers.  I spent over an hour in the car, knowing it was safer to do so but couldn't get anyone to help me.  Even the police drove by, 2 different cars and never stopped.  So I had to get out and walk on the hard shoulder, with fully loaded 18 wheelers rushing by me at about 70 mph.  I was getting blown around.  I'd been walking about 20 minutes, was still about another 15 minutes from the off ramp before a senior couple on their way home from Florida after 3 1/2 days of driving stopped for me.  They were nice enough to buy a gas tank and fill it, then drive back in the opposite direction so that we could get back on the highway and get to my car.  Then they waited to make sure the car started before they'd leave.  She was horrified to see as lone female walking along the 401.  They refused any payment, gave me a huge hug and told me to pay it forward when I got the chance.

You can bet I will.  I've had to stop more than a few times when accidents have happened in front of me while driving.  I'd never hesitate to stop for someone in distress and who needs help.  It's ingrained in me to do so, got it from my dad.  I have yet to put myself in a dangerous situation, but unless it involved a knife or a gun, I would get between two people fighting.  I don't think I could help myself.

Aileen1968 -> RE: If you think there are no Good Sameratans ... (9/15/2011 4:40:35 AM)

I saw this on the evening news....turns out, according to the news report, that the guy who owned the car was one of the ones lifting it and not the guy in the suit just standing there.
Perhaps people shouldn't jump to conclusions so quickly based on images from a video...

From CNN yesterday..

The man Curtis believes to be the driver appears in the video dressed in a dark suit. He stood a little off to the side from the group and did not help lift the car, the video shows. After Wright is pulled from underneath the vehicle, the man in the suit walks over to look at the motorcyclist.

I want to say perhaps people shouldnt jump to conclusions so quickly based on what they hear on the evening news, but it really doesnt matter, does it? [;)]

What DOES matter...

Despite not wearing a helmet, Riggs said, Wright had suffered no head trauma. Wright does have two broken legs, a broken pelvis, road rash, burns on his left foot and abrasions to his forehead. The hospital said Wright was in satisfactory condition.
