lazarus1983 -> Finally hit it today, 405 squat (9/8/2011 8:18:15 PM)

So whenever ago I posted that I had hit a personal milestone in my knee surgery recovery by successfully squatting 375.

This morning, I fought through the trepidation and fear and finally hit my current goal of 405.

Last December I tore my acl, mcl, pcl, meniscus, and had bone bruising throughout my right knee. After knee surgery and recovery, and a mountain of naysayers, on September 8th, I reached my goal of squatting 405.

But rest assured my friends, this will be the last update you'll have to endure.

Great news, Laz! Now for heaven's sake will you back off a bit so you don't re-injure the poor thing?!

Nope. I've got no time to weep. I still have many lands to conquer.

I am glad for you, like (as?) I said, but really--a rebuilt knee is NOT the same knee! LISTEN to it when it feels off, because FOREVER it will need extra attention. You are a hot young thing, but you are not bionic.

First of all Congratulations!  You have earned them.

You have earned them with perseverance, courage and dedication to your goals.

However you should not let that blind you to whatever lessons could come from
this experience.

Remember what the old testament says:  "Be kind to your ass, for it bears you."

Well it would be difficult to conquer lands or anything else if you re-injure your knee. You've proven you can do it now take it easy.

He is not done.  He is going to shoot for 410.    Bet on it.

Thank God for that.

Last week I bench pressed a small Airstream (which by no easy mention, had a large pallet of imported banana's on it {from Brazil}...which I might add, was no small feat considering the rounded top of most Airstream's...balancing and coordination was a son of a bitch).  It wasn't easy...and frankly, with the 27 year old hottie watching the whole damn thing, it just made it all the worse...but I persevered.

Honestly, I'm lucky to have made it out alive.

But here I am....fully fledged, responding to your ridiculous post.

(I do what I can).

A lot of people fail to climb everest for every one that makes it. Which will he be? Nobody but him knows. Sometimes its you have to know when enough is enough. And sometimes doing enough is not enough.

I'm curious how you did that,  because if your form is correct, squatting doesn't put undue stress on the knees at all.

Having said that, since I got my right knee sorted, the squat has been increasing at a great rate of knots, although I attribute a lot of that to increased stability.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Finally hit it today, 405 squat (9/9/2011 7:27:13 PM)

Super congrats.

I know how hard it is to come back from an injury.

But, as others have stated, be kind to yourself. Yes, this does mean your physical self, too.

You're absolutely right. A correctly performed squat is one of the most natural movements for the human body. My injuries were sustained during training. Five guys came crashing down on me and I was unable to get my right leg under me when I went down.

But thanks to all for the kind words. I have no intention of stopping, I will take my bad knee with me, and add it to my other various injuries and issues.

LOL we could have a very long conversation comparing ouchy places and physical issues.
