I haven't shopped retail for years. In the San Francisco East Bay there's a small mall (right off the freeway and not on the outskirts) with Eileen Fisher, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and Nine West outlet stores (among others). In spite of the article, that pretty much covers it for me. [;)]

I hate outlet malls & rarely shop in them, unless a friend drags me. I figured all that shit out just walking around them.

I never ever go to outlet shops.

I have a couple times and found i never save any money. I can find many places that sell the same items for cheaper.

They are a waste of time and money for me.

It depends on where you go....I have found that the Vanity Fair/Lee branded stores actually DO sell the merchandise they claim to.  I am pretty picky about my jeans, and Lee jeans are really the only ones that seem to fit, and even then, it's only certain kinds of Lee's.  I try EVERYTHING on....which is a pain, but I know it fits before I leave the stores.  Saves having to do the return thing.

And the Corning stores are usually a good place for deals.

I don't get into the fancy branded stores......even at their markdown prices, that stuff is way more than what I want to spend.  Of course, I only buy clothes maybe once or twice a year....if that often.  I may not be in the current style, but I still look pretty godd for an old fart!  [:)]

And ironically, I read that very same article last night......great minds and all!

Haven't clicked on the link. Just my experience -

Outlet malls? No. Tourist traps.

Outlet stores? The rare one that's in the middle of nowhere or attached to a factory in the middle of nowhere? Yes.

I don't buy clothing at the outlet malls. I do shop and buy items at the corning store. Also go to the kitchen stores to look for specific specialty items that I can not find in other stores.
