Status: offline 		Hello all. I've found a web site that can help you find out if a picture has been lifted from another site and is being used as part of a fake profile..it's http://www.tineye.com/

Just save the image to your desk top and upload it to the site..it does a search and gives you a list of the site where the picture can be found. :-) hope this is helpful

to be able to spot a disingenuous person/profile even if it doesn't contain a photo.

Also. lifted photos does not a fake profile make.
There are many members, including myself, that don't use personal photos
of ourselves, and yet I am very very real. Seriously! Pinch me if you must!

I suppose that's great, as far as it goes, so thank you. But then there's the issue of how old/accurate the photo is, use of photo shop, etc. There's always something.

Honestly, even with not particularly attractive photos (or even no photos, gasp!) I'll still meet interesting people for coffee. And cute pictures have yet to override boring or annoying for me. So photos are nice, but not something I pin my hopes on.

Status: offline 		The problem here would actually be that the site can not tell you where the original picture came from. An example of how this could lead to an error....I have a friend that very much believed I just had to have a facebook page. So she did the simple thing of taking a picture off my yahoo account and made one for me. When I refused to do anything with it she decided it would be funny to see how many people who knew me would see the picture and want to be my friend because of it. None of the ones that did knew they were not actually friending me, but her, and it lead to some confusing conversations later. Unless a site can prove who the picture really belongs to it really isn't being helpful.
