Picture looks pretty crappy, they will never find him. I've seen great pictures of people that have robed banks here and they never seem to get caught.
Maybe the guy was off duty, between shifts, didn't see any markings on the car. I know that doesn't mean alot....
Probably was showing off for some of his friends that have to sit all day and watch the camera.

Hell, at least he's only a cop and not some elected official.

I want to know how long was that perverted squirrel sitting there watching ?

I did, to me the pic looks crappy, maybey thats because of the way they printed it out or something, no markings on the car....and since it's a cop, I doubt other cops will put much effort into it.

I agree they can't catch bank robbers sometimes but that is one person out of 100,000 or more possibles.

I guarantee that if they ask everyone on the force to walk by to get a rear view they can narrow it down to 1-3 people.

Wanna bet they won't bother to do that?

Well, there isn't enough information to make an informed decision, but my gut is:

If the female was a willing accomplice, and the cop was off-duty or on break, and they weren't exposed to the public ... who cares?

Hell, cops have to eat on duty and in uniform. They have to shit and piss while on duty and in uniform .... they can kiss their loved ones while on duty and in uniform ...

The status of all three of those issues are currently unknown.

I love technology. Case in point I was robbed twice last year. I installed video cameras around the house. The moron came back for a 3rd try a few weeks ago. I caught him on tape but did not know who he was. Luckily a police car drove down my street around the time of the 3rd attempt. The police car had a license plate reader on it so it captured every car that the cruiser passed. So the police ran all the license plates within 20 minutes of the attempt from that crusier. They pulled up each owner and walla! one of the owners matched the guy in my video. He is now in jail awaiting trial :)

Long story to make a point. I am pretty sure they can prove who this guy was and where he was just with technology. Cell phone towers, video traffic cameras, License plate readers, etc. will put him in the area. That combined with the video will be more that enough to nail the guy. The thing is, it will take time. So the guy that tried to rob my house for a 3rd time in July will go to trial in November. So give it a little time.

the reason I titled this with the phrase "was it REALLY a cop" is because a while back, in FL, a guy gt busted for impersonating a police officer, and raping (IIRC) at least two women.

I used to live in NM. It will be pretty easy for them to know which officer it is for several reasons.... unlike most other places, there are a VERY small number of NMSP officers on duty at any one time. I guarantee you--those officers can take one look at the photo and know who it is. It's a geographically large state, but it's small in population, and in the law enforcement world, everybody there knows everybody.

Their dispatcher can identify and locate where any officer is (approximately) at any time, so if there were others on active calls, they can likely rule them out during the time the sex took place. Even if he was off-duty, he was still in uniform, so he was likely at the end or beginning of a shift--have to look to see what time it happened.. This took place in Santa Fe County but this ranch is far enough out that if they really wanted to identify the officer...they could.

edited to add: the real irony here, is that so much of New Mexico is "frontier", meaning wilderness. They picked the one spot within miles and miles that actually had a camera. Most of the area around that ranch is desolate. How dense can you get.... unless they wanted to be filmed.....

This just in. The figured out who it was and SURPRISE SURPRISE, he won't be charged because they claim no crime occurred.

How about indecent exposure for one?

Anyone else wanna bet if it was one of us we would STILL be in jail and looking at being on the sex offender list for the rest of our lives?

I lived in Albuquerque for seventeen years and I agree with all of this. The thing I'd like to add is that NM is very much an old-boys network and I'm surprised the guy was ever pointed out. I expected a closing of the ranks.
