DONT watch the vid if you want to keep your eyes dry.

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/26/2011 8:09:30 AM)

This was so sad. Dogs are marvelous animals.

GreedyTop -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/26/2011 8:18:01 AM)

I saw that last night.. poor pup!! whats going to happen to him now, I wonder?

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/26/2011 8:21:48 AM)

one of the friends is going to keep the doggie.
and yeah, the video is way too weepy. don't watch it if you're already feeling emo

in the aftermath of the tsunami in japan, there were images of dogs huddled near the dead bodies of their families. very very sad.

lazarus1983 -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/26/2011 8:23:26 AM)

The article states a friend of Nichol's will take care of the dog.

GreedyTop -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/26/2011 8:24:11 AM)

that good.. I hope the dog accepts that...

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/26/2011 8:26:01 AM)

Nichols is the friend who's taking the doggie; Hawkeye's original owner was Tumlinson.

I didn't see the link to a video of that, could someone provide it?  I've looked the article over a couple times and I see links to videos of other dogs  but not of that story.  I'm feeling emo, and want to indulge myself.

This story always made me weepy when I was a kid.

We had a black lab, named Faith, who had a nightly ritual of sitting by the front door until everyone in the family was home safe and in bed - then she'd go lay down in my parents room and sleep.  After my dad died, she lay on the floor by the front door for months, waiting for my dad to come home.  One night she just got up and went into my mom's room and laid her head on my mom's lap (I'd swear they both cried together) and after that she never waited by the door again.  Not the unfailing dedication of Shep, but Faith was always a smart and practical dog.  I miss her.

VirginPotty -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/26/2011 11:25:30 AM)

I saw that earlier today.  Very, very sad.
I agree w/Hill, don't watch if you want dry eyes!

soul2share -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/27/2011 6:48:35 AM)

I read the story on my YH news page, and didn't watch the video, because I knew it'd break my heart.  I don't know if the Navy would retire the dog and let him go with the guy, but that would be the best.  Usually, K9's in the military are "recycled" to a new handler.  I swear, the bonds that develop between the dog and handler are forever.  And people forget that animals mourn loss just as humans do.

GreedyTop -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/27/2011 6:55:53 AM)

omg, semi...

what a lovely (but heart wrenching) story...

Iamsemisweet -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/27/2011 7:38:13 AM)

I know greedy, it is so touching. There is a statue of Shep in Fort Benton. I cry every time I see it, but I am just crazy about dogs.

ResidentSadist -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/27/2011 9:21:07 AM)

Touching story.

LadyPact -> RE: Dog mourns for Navy SEAL (8/27/2011 11:49:25 AM)

Very much so.  The pic and the story alone were enough to get Me a bit misty.

My shockwave plugin crashed when watching that page. (Dunno what it is, but that is what the error report said.)

For what it is worth: the photograph of the seal-soldier made a good impression on me. May the God of the Dead reward him according to his merits.
