Sanity -> RE: How will the wolf survive? (8/26/2011 6:26:25 AM)

Now youre babbling.

The wolves are spreading far beyond where they were introduced, not reintroduced.

These are Canadian greys, much larger pack animals than the wolves that once inhabited the area

You live in Montana, Idaho, and parts of Utah, Oregon and Washington? Impressive. Or bullshit. They didn't reintroduce in population centers.

mnottertail -> RE: How will the wolf survive? (8/26/2011 6:27:52 AM)

Less than 800 wolves in Idaho is not a dense population.

When Sanity was a young boy,   he got raised by a pack of wolfs.

Well I went looking, and I see there is a contingency from Idaho that claims this. Pretty light in the way of scientific evidence. Though. Mostly just observations of those competing foe the same wildlife.

I hope the wolves have learned the art of eating long pig

Sanity -> RE: How will the wolf survive? (8/26/2011 6:45:48 AM)

They are rapidly losing their fear of humans due to their close proximity to people here, theyre coming into towns now and taking pets. When they do take someone its more likely to be someones child than an adult, thats just the way it is.

Last I looked, there were 2 fatal attacks in N America (one of those in Canada is a maybe) since white settlement.

DEER have killed more people.

BEES have killed more people.

As for wiping out game animals, in a lot of areas game animals (deer, elk, moose, etc) are bordering on or already overpopulated.

Breeding like rabbits? Where did you get your Biology degree sanity? Did it come from a gumball machine? Within each pack, only one pair will breed. Cub survival is low. That's why it has taken a number of decades for wolves to become common enough to even show up on the radar.

You keep mentioning over and over northern "Pack Wolves". ALL fucking wolves (Canis lupus) live in packs naturally. Northern strain, Southern Strain, Arctic strain and even the various European and Asian strains.

Livestock losses? Feral dogs kill a lot more.

Sanity -> RE: How will the wolf survive? (8/26/2011 6:56:57 AM)

When I was a young boy I did roam the very forests and mountains that these wolf packs are clearing of game and competition now

I was last hiking up in the Idaho high country a few of short weeks ago

Its too bad these wolves are wiping out all the other animals up that way, a really sad turn of events

Get a clue, why do you think the most liberal administration ever is clearing a path to control the wolf population

Theyre spiraling out of control

I could only find one reported case of wolves killing a human, and it was in 2007 in Canada. Domestic dogs are more likely to kill people. The hunting lobby really cracks me up. They justify hunting on the basis of controlling game populations since the natural predators are gone. Then they scream like little girls when predators are introduced to compete for "their" game. Obviously wolves need to be controlled if they come into urban areas. That isn't where these hunts are taking place.

http://www.columbian.com/news/2011/aug/25/motion-to-bar-montana-idaho-wolf-hunts-denied/

Fucking congressman insert a budget rider that basically guts the endangered species act protection for wolves in large parts of the west. This is after the goddamn Feds spent years and millions of dollars on recovering the species and reintroducing them to those same parts of the west.  If my memory serves me correctly, the species of wolf "reintroduced" here (I live in Idaho) is a different species than the wolves they are replacing.  The ones that have been "reintroduced" are larger and much more aggressive than those that they replace, and really aren't "native" to this area.  And some fucking dumb ass judge denied an injunction to stop a hunt that will likely wipe out every pack member  I don't know if you said this through ignorance or for exaggerated effect.  You say it as though you think it is going to be a free-for-all hunt until all wolves are wiped out.  I can't speak for other states, but the Idaho hunt is a controlled hunt, meaning that the number of wolves taken is limited, and the hunt ends either on a specific date or when a certain number of wolves have been killed, whichever comes first.  Also, the number of wolf tags issued is limited to help prevent over-hunting.   before a decision can be made on the legality of the rider.
God damn these people. So much for the value of a species being "incalcuable".

Personally, I think the reintroduction of wolves to the state is a good thing, but the wolf population has grown larger and more quickly than even the Idaho Department of Fish and Game expected, and occasionally the number of wolves, as with other animals, needs to be thinned.  This is done for various reasons, and believe it or not, some of those reasons are actually to benefit the wolf population.

Unfortunately, the people in Washington DC and other parts of the country don't see the problems up-close and personal like the residents here see it.

By the way...I gave up hunting of any kind many years ago, so the only stick that I have in this fire is that I live here and may see it differently than someone living thousands of miles away.

ooooooooooooooh its Obama doing it?? is it "anti muslim" to let wolves live then?[sm=marionette.gif][sm=lame.gif][8|][8|][8|][8|]

mnottertail -> RE: How will the wolf survive? (8/26/2011 7:03:04 AM)

Well you see with the less than 800 wolves in Idaho, and the state having taken the control of that population May of this year, with no federal interventions, I would find most of your diatribe to be outright prevarication, unless old 'Butch' Otter is the most liberal administration ever.

Sanity -> RE: How will the wolf survive? (8/26/2011 7:04:40 AM)

Again - they havent been here until now, and they are reproducing like rabbits.

Lucy thinks its funny that the odds are getting better that people will be killed, but I know who is most likey to be taken, and why. A sick or injured wolf is a very dangerous animal, and they are coming into our cities

Your reply has absolutely nothing to say about the statement you are supposedly answering.

Wouldn't a liberal administration curtail hunting of wolves? You contradict yourself. I guess the foam from your mouth is falling on your keyboard and making it hard to type coherently.

Who do you think, dizzy little troll?  [:D]

Sanity -> RE: How will the wolf survive? (8/26/2011 7:09:03 AM)

An extremely liberal administration is opening it up for these hunts because people on the ground here have presented them with the undeniable facts which you ignorant nobodys who live thousands of miles away can only guess about

The hunting and ranching lobby won't be satisfied until the packs are gone.
