lol, that was funny.

my ex is colour blind, red/green particularly. he was almost always point man for his unit when he was a paratrooper. camoflauge was very obvious to him.

Lol...my man is red/green color blind. When we do bike rides I have to read the color of the colored arrows for us since they tend to use red and green to mark the different routes and those colors look the same to him.

When he and I first met I was intrigued to find out what the world looked like to him from my point of reference, and I found this site which I thought was cool. The site shows a picture, and then the same picture as a color blind person sees it according to the varying types of color blindness. Plus I was always curious to know what caucasians look like if you can't see red/pink....scroll down the page till you see the picture of the woman in a field of flowers. It was shocking for me to see what many people look like to him.

So when women put on red lipstick or nail polish it really looks ochre....weird.

I thought so too! Isn't it weird how if you are red/green color blind the world is all ochre and gray/black with a few splashes of blue? Obviously his world has no red and green, but also no brown, no purple, no orange, no teal or turquoise.Things are so monochromatic but the overall color is so blasted fugly! Who wants to look at a puky ochre all day long?

I heard that colour-blind people learn to recognise objects by means of shape better than those who aren't.  It was/is believed that they make better snipers.

I forgot that my Dad is colour-blind.  I carefully picked out a route in bright red on a map from the town centre to my place when he first drove to visit me.  He literally couldn't see the red lines that I'd drawn.  He was horribly embarrassed by it, poor old sod.

i used to wonder what the world looked liek to a person with color-blindness.

or there was a show i saw several years ago about a man whose eyes and brain had a disconnect. he couldn't really comprehend anything he was looking at.

Not so sure about that. I think it's more that they can't distinguish, that red and green look the same. Brown is red and green so maybe they see both as brown. It also may differ from person to person. What I don't know is whether the problem is actually in the brain or the eyes.

There is also IIRC blue-green color blindness which is much more rare. Even rarer is total color blindness where one actually sees the world in black and white. Thing is people don't even notice until they're told usually. There are tests.

Actually color blindness is why the red light is always on the top and the green light is always on the bottom. There is also a protocol for those instances in which the traffic light is mounted horizontally, I THINK the red light is always on the left but I am not sure.

When I had my TV shop I had a color blind customer. Sometimes I had TVs that had a bad picture tube and could not display the color correctly. He bought them and actually said they looked better to him sometimes, that the image was clearer.

Go figure. But if the guy in the video is a dog, cool. He knows where to lick :-)

Did you actually look at the site I posted? There are pictures there that show how a color blind person sees the world. I wasn't talking out of my butt and wondering what the world looks like when you are color blind...I can see what it looks like by looking at the pictures that are posted there. In the pictures representing red/green color blindness there is no red, green, brown, purple, orange, teal, or turquoise. Please don't take my word for it, go look. What red/green color blind people see from our perspective is a world with black, white, gray, blue, yellow, and ochre. From their perspective it's just how they see, and yeah....a lot of them don't even know. They can identify colors by position and some other cues, but no....they don't see them the way most of us do.

You wondered where color blindness comes from...its the absence or malfunction of certain color sensitive cone cells in the retina. So it originates in the eye, not the brain.

Now I have. But the thing is there is no disagreement. The seeing is there, the ability to distinguish is not. Obviously you had a reason to look into it.

Of course I forget terminology quicly but if I am not mistaken the pictures they show on the right are of a more rare type correct ?

But no, initially I didn't look at the site. I generally don't do that, go to every link everyone puts up. But once you gave me aa reason I guess........ y'know ?

But still there is total color blindness which is exceedingly rare.

Now since I got into it I found something interesting :

"Because this is an X-linked trait about 1% of women have a 4th color cone and can be considered tetrachromats although it is not clear that this provides an advantage in color discrimination." (this was along with the part about it being almost exclusively a male thing)

One more thing Women can do. Dammit ! The subject of color and light used to interest me greatly and now I want to find a bunch of these Women and find out what they can see that the rest of us can't see.

Stop getting me interested in shit. I need my beauty sleep, OH MAN DO IT NEED MY BEAUTY SLEEP ! LOL.
