There goes my Apple stock.
Seriously, I feel terrible for Mr. Jobs, my brother also suffered from pancreatic cancer.

His health problems should already be built into the stock price, so I doubt there will be a major drop tomorrow. Long term Id get out of it though! Every company he's led has done better with him than without him, creating $ billions of value for the shareholders of those companies. The next great idea equivalent to iPhone and iPad's impact may be a lot harder for Apple to come by.

Of course some on a different board will say he was paid too much.

The stock price surged when he came back the first time, so no such luck.  Too bad, great company.

He did the right thing...he's been preparing the market for Cook for 2 years.

They're about to introduce I-Phone 5....trust me, it'll be a blockbuster.

Jobs wouldn't have announced at this time if the next version wasn't going to storm the planet.

Guy's a class act....by a long shot.

Yeah no joking plus it normally kills really fast. To be honest....diagnosed in what 2004, I'm amazed and happy he's still alive.

His return wasnt public knowledge, his illness has been. I wouldnt expect more than a $20-$25 drop as those who havent been paying attention panic, and within a week it will be back to overall market changes.

You read about after it happened. He returned when Apple bought Next, which was a total surprise to the market, described as "Stunning", "shocking" and similar terms. And it wasnt unanimously well received, with the stock price barely moving. There was no surge when he returned. The stock price finally moved up a bit a year later with an unexpected quarterly profit. There was no surge in stock price until 10 years later.

He has a variety of pancreatic cancer that was treatable, to an extent. Plus he had transplants that bought him time. I hope he is still healthy enough to enjoy himself a little.

Too many people think that Steve Jobs IS Apple.

If you bought it years ago... sell now.

Depressing, isn't it?
Given how smart most Apple fans fancy themselves, you'd think the fact that the cunt's management skills are limited to bullying underlings and stealing credit for other people's work would get a bit more attention.
I think his biggest achievement since he was reinstated was pulling the plug on the Newton six months before Palms started selling like crazy. If Apple loses Jonathan Ives, it might be in trouble, but Jons retiring is no big deal. Outside of providing the company with an eminently punchable and insufferably smug public face, what does Jobs actually do for Apple?

prevent innovation? Cause employees to quit? Take credit for other people's work?

LMAO at Moonbeam. Jobs is recognized as a brilliant businessman by his peers.

Last I heard, he appointed his COO, which has been doing his job for some time, anyway (since his return to the company, the tv news said).  And Jobs said, even though he won't be the CEO, he will be a major contributor.  I think Jobs planned out the future of his company like a responsible business man, who cares about his business.  IMO

I would think if stocks do take a dip, it will be short lived.  Can't be any worse than the dips we've been seeing across the board.

There is a biography coming out in November on him, thinking about buying it..

I really dont know much about Apple but it did surprise me to learn that Apple no longer manufactures anything anymore, its all outsourced.. which apparently increased the profit of the company dramatically, and stock price of course... now they just develop new products and market them..

He may be recognized as such but that doesn't make it true.

Steve Wozniak is the person who actually designed and built the first Apple computer. Jobs was just a hanger on.

The Mac was not invented by Jobs, he is neither an electrical engineer nor a software developer. The Mac was actually invented by PARC which was part of Xerox. For quite a long time Apple even paid Microsoft to develop the Mac OS because Jobs had systematically run off every really talented programmer the company recruited.

The same pattern holds true for NeXt, the iPod, iPhone etc. Jobs has made a great career out of claiming other people's work as his own which might be some businessmen's idea of greatness but his real claim to fame will always be being a completely shameless self promoter.

Actually, the Mac was a copy of the Xerox Star and was developed by Jeff Raskin. Jobs not only had fuck all to do with it, he was actually insisting while it was under development that it was a stupid idea and they shouldn't be bothering with it. (Another example of his credentials as a brilliant businessman, just like the Cube and the Apple TV...)

The iPod was actually bought out from the company that designed and patented it: have a look at the about screen on yours and you'll see them credited. It isn't even an Apple design, never mind anything to do with big Jobs.

(Steve Wozniak designed and built the first three or four Apple computers: it was the second one, and Visicalc that made the company.)

Well, you were right about that.  I expected a big drop, and it didn't happen.
