Owner59 -> Republican Gov. Christie just raised taxes. (8/19/2011 6:59:51 PM)

"Come on, Chris, tell the truth: You just raised taxes"

http://blog.nj.com/njv_paul_mulshine/2011/08/come_on_chris_tell_the_truth_y.html

"It's a user fee," Christie said at a press conference today. "It's not a tax. I know what a tax is and what it looks like."

"User fee"........ROTFLMAO!!

Right.......if you call it a "user fee",you can claim it`s not raising taxes.......

Fucking lying hypcrate.

Well the neo-con`s new favorite looks like he can lie and fuck around with words with the best of`m.

Lucylastic -> RE: Republican Gov. Christie just raised taxes. (8/19/2011 7:04:08 PM)

Its Obamas fault.....

DarkSteven -> RE: Republican Gov. Christie just raised taxes. (8/19/2011 7:20:44 PM)

Technically, he's correct.  A tax makes all taxpayers pay for a service, while user fees make only those pay who actually benefit from it.  That said, it sure looks like revenue enhancement to me.

The con-mantra is that every/any taking of more money from tax-payers to government is a tax.A fee is another word for tax. Here,I`m going with their definition.

But now,the cons want to have it both ways.

It`s now going to cost 15 bucks to drive in/drive out.

I`m not a big fan of Paul Mulshine but he`s consistent and honest and doesn`t play word games. He`s very tough on liberals but will hold the con`s feet to the fire if they start using weasel words like "fee".

Let's not forget Ronnie Reagan, the king of spend and tax, who left us with the hugely increased gas tax, and my favorite, the tax on unemployment insurance. (among many others)

Where does it say that a conservative can never increase user fees

Or that a leftist cant lower taxes when prudent

Do you never think for yourselves?

Excellent POST!

It doesn't say that anywhere. The problem with today's Republicans is EXACTLY that! They are nearly incapable of thinking for themselves. Instead, they sign pledges to do what some faux-conservative hack or Koch brothers funded group wants them to do. (And on the rare occasion they actually THINK for themselves, they try to spin it, as much as they can.)

Nice post.

First take note of who made the OP and who piled on

Then change a few of the words you posted to me and say read it into the mirror

And you might be on to something

This is perfect. Money, as in cold hard cash, is government property. All that needs to be done is slap a user fee on people who use money. It's not an income tax, it's paying for the priviledge of using government property. Say, no fees unless you use over a certain amount? That way everone gets a fair share use and all those user fees can go into the coffers to pay for things like printing new money, paying off government debt (since its government property) and other sundry items of government interest.

Christie really should run for pres. He's quite brillant and the tea party folks will love that no one raised taxes. Win-win!

I have to agree with Owner59 on this one; Conservatives would call this a tax if a Democrat had taken the same exact action. The sad thing is the number of conservatives that will defend this crap. Guess their principles are trumped in favor of political fanaticism.

I'm afraid you guys misunderstand the situation.

Of course it's a tax if the Dems do it, but a 'user fee' if Repubs do it. Just as Bush and Reagan didn't tax and spend - by 'definition' only Dems can do that. Or Iraq was a totally justified war of liberation but Libya is an unjustifiable interference in the internal affairs of a foreign country.

It's not the action that counts - it's who did it. If 'they' did it then it must be baaaaaad. If 'we' did it, then it must be good. Other wise our dear friends on the Right would have to think about things a little more deeply - and for many of them, that would be asking far more than they can deliver. Right wing double speak saves lots of wing nuts from nervous breakdowns.

I hope that helps clarify things for you guys.

SilverMark -> RE: Republican Gov. Christie just raised taxes. (8/20/2011 4:15:08 AM)

I have to tell you folks, I just finished reading "The Soprano State", the topic is New Jersey and it's overiding and crushing corruption that, there has become an institution.

I have no great love for much in the way of Republican policies, but I also have to say that as screwed up as NJ is and the costs involved in how the state actually operates, I have no idea how it isn'already bankrupt.

While Christie served as US Attorney, the man really was an effective legal force in efforts to put a stop to what is without doubt the most screwed up state in the union. The taxes invovlved to pay off the corrupt pols on both sides of the political spectrum alone is enough to break the bank.

After Florio, Whitman, McGreevy and a few hundred years of institutionalized corruption, a user fee may be the only way to keep the place afloat and hopefully there is no patronage jobs involved in collecting the fees.

Best advice for those in New Jersey, MOVE!!!! Do it quickly, GET OUT!...as a citizen of that fucked up mess of a state, you are akin to the teenage girl in a horror film who hears a noise, and she just can't stop herself from finding out what caused it. You are going to get killed, it is just financial instead of the hack him with a pick axe death!

The book would be unbelievable as fiction, but as non-fiction it is just a bit scarey!....MOVE...NOW!

FR...

Regarding pledges/oaths to the Norquist god - congresscritters take an oath the the Constitution. That's the only one they should be beholden to, not groups along the lines of Norquist or any equivalent on the left (but I don't know that anything that organized exists on the left!)

Norquist got his pledge idea when he was 14. He figured it would be a lot easier for voters if they knew that Republicans were for guns and against taxes. Didn't matter what the guy was like (knowledgable, clueless, clean/corrupt, etc) but you always knew he was pro gun and anti-taxes.

That's because you're stuck in your own cognitive framing, and don't really understand that lefties aren't subject to the religious fervor that the teabagging religion suffers from... Remember, Republicans pull together. Democrats pull apart. There's no criticism that anyone from the right can level on the left that the FURTHER LEFT hasn't already accused them of.

Hey, in a way the teabaggers picked that up from the left, because it violates the Canon of St. Ronnie, in that it violates the religious law that no republican should criticize another...
