DomImus -> Senior Citizen Discount (8/17/2011 2:36:16 PM)

The "Getting carded" gave me a thought: Do any of you regularly get the senior citizen discount even though you do not yet qualify for it? I get it sometimes at Kroger on senior's day depending on who is working the register. If you get it (and don't yet deserve it) does it offend you in any way? Do you correct them about your age? Not me. Not at all. Those 5% discounts add up.

Mmmmmmmmmm no. I have a hard enough time getting people to believe I am the age I am. They try to knock 5 - 10 years off.

Obviously they do not see me first thing in the morning...

NOOOO, for the love of god, NOOO.  It was bad enough when I started getting offers to join the AARP, and cute box boys at the grocery store kept calling me "ma'am."

This post reminds me many years ago when I worked at a store which gave a discount to private label items for seniors when they showed us the store "Senior Savers" card.  So as a cashier I'd see a sweet grey haired person and I'd be in a "damned if you do" situation.  If I dared ask him/her if s/he had a senior card, I might insult - if I waited and rang up the order (we didn't have the newfangled computer registers at that time, we had to ring up individually) the senior would no doubt show the card AFTER I rang it up, which meant I'd have to void the order and re-ring it up.

I am way too young, and vibrant for this.

Unfortunately, they TRY to give me one, damn it[&o] Master will be 65 in October. I JUST turned 39 last month. He has very long, gray-ish hair in a ponytail and his beard/moustache are gray. It's pretty obvious he qualifies but, because we're together and I have a FEW gray hairs, they always assume I too am a senior citizen when we go out to eat or to a new movie. Irks me to no end. I guess I should appreciate a small discount but 20 years too early? No thanks[8D]

I remember stopping at Burger King for dinner one evening.  The total was lower than what the posted price was, plus there should have been tax added.  I just figured the item must be on sale.  Only after going to that store several times did I realize some were giving me the senior citizen discount without me asking for it and some where not.  Since I have no idea how old a senior is according to BK, I'm not sure if I got a deal I didn't qualify for or not.
