Yahoo and cnn have lately been deliberately writing misleading headlines to draw people in.

That's nothing new. Like the news teasers that shout at you something like, "Your children will spontaneously combust next time they do this common activity!!!!! We'll tell you what that common activity is at 11!" And it's only 7:15.

But it's never at !!:00, it's always at 11:29 and ya have to sit through all the other bullshit.

Is there a difference between honour and machismo?
Yes but only for small minded idiots

And speakers of English...

hon·or
honesty, fairness, or integrity in one's beliefs and actions

ma·chis·mo
an assumptive attitude that virility, courage, strength, and entitlement to dominate are attributes or concomitants of masculinity

My idea of fishing these days is dangling a feathered mouse on a string in front of my cat.

Well drat!

Wait a minute. . . if I impugn your honor/masculinity/boating prowess would that mean that you would HAVE to take me fishing on a boat to prove yourself? Because in that case. . .

I will come up with something.

Ya..........I think it's a southern thang which to me, fits right in with the article.

I think the writer of the piece is mistaking honour with machismo, as others have already said. Per Kirata's example and my own personal mindset based upon the definition of honour........that is not what the example morons of the piece are doing. Machismo fits that behaviour so much better.

I am also going to guess (if the article didn't say it already.....don't remember right now) that education, the lack of, and personal insecurity, plays a bit part in the type of behaviour described.

I think not. Yuck!

I will note that it is not just a southern thing as there are plenty here in Eastern Kansas that partake of that activity.

I've been to Eastern Kansas......I am convinced that there are many Southern transplants there.

I will say that you can meet a lot of 'interesting' people in the small towns.
