I've known for a very long time that genetics play a huge part in health. My brother-in-law had about 6% bodyfat & his serum cholesterol level was over 400. I, on the other hand, at 100 lbs overweight--at least--was told by one Dr, who couldn't quite believe what she was seeing, that I had the serum cholesterol level of a tri-athlete. I have low blood pressure, no arthritis in the weight bearing joints, and a great heart. At the ripe old age of 65, it doesn't look like I'll be shuffling off any time soon. My mother died pretty young, but that was also kind of willful on her part. She was only 62 when she died. Her siblings, except for one, are still alive more than 25 years later. Her mother died in her 90's & her grandmother was 100. I do try to take care of myself, even with the extra weight, because I want to actually *live* this life.
