Explosions, electricity and fire are three things that have fascinated humans for milennia, presumably on account of the forces involved, the danger, and the organic nature of some of the associated phenomena. Nowadays, there is ample knowledge about these things available to the layman, making it a lot easier to be safe than back when I used to play around with blowing things up.
The main thing to remember is to know your own limits, to always err on the side of caution, and to never involve unknowns when you're not able to determine what the side of caution is. For instance, never blow up anything other than the explosive and its container, unless you've got significant demolitions experience, as the secondary kinetics are more complicated, with details easy to miss when one isn't a professional (glass shattering, pieces having a low mass but high area so a given force accelerates them to high velocity, and so forth).
Assuming it's legal where you live, of course.
